Almost a year running endeavourOS

I meant to add...

This is on an i9-13900 and RTX 4070 laptop. I installed Linux on it the day after I bought it.

I have to say, I'm thoroughly loving CachyOS on my secondary PC. Right now my main KDE Neon PC is running a WD Black m.2 nvme SSD for the OS and two 6TB HDD's for storage. The SSD isn't that old, the HDD's are getting on in age, and smart reporting is beginning to show signs of possible issues in the future.

KDE Neon's never given me any trouble, but CachyOS is the bomb. I plan on replacing one 6TB HDD with a 4TB m.2 nvme SSD for games and the like, and I plan on replacing the other 6TB HDD with an 8TB HDD for storage - At the same time I'm gonna swap the main PC from KDE Neon to CachyOS.

I've been really impressed by the snapshot functionality of btrfs, so I think I'll run btrfs on the WD Black SSD and run XFS on the 4TB SSD, I'll keep the HDD running Ext4 as it's literally just serving media to the hometheater.

Arch really has advanced in leaps and bounds, exciting times.

Really looking forward to the completion of this project so I can give windows it's last boot. VR Linux for Gnome/KDE. Valve's involvement gives me hope it will be sooner than later.
That's a pretty old article. While I don't really care for VR, Plasma supports DRM leasing, and WiVRn supports wireless connectivity to a standalone VR headset with processing done on the PC. See GitHub page below:

For more up to date information regarding VR connectivity under Linux, see the link below:

Yea I see it now it's been awhile since I attempted VR on linux. ALVR has support for my Quest 3 now too yay. Gonna give it a whirl soon then a quick boot in the ass for windows.

Gave CachyOS a test drive. Didn't like it. Too many lose ends. Glad there are so many choices when it comes to Linux.

Mainly missing stuff like no image viewer. Opening pics in a browser sucks.

And what DE did you use exactly? Because Plasma under CachyOS comes with Gwenview installed by default:

Gewnview 2.png

Cinannamon is basically reaching the point of irrelevance due to the fact that it's development simply isn't keeping up with superior DE's like KDE's Plasma. The only DE you need is Plasma, I don't even recommend Gnome at this point anymore.

Good to know. Thanks.

I’ll be interested to hear whether you think it’s worth switching. VR is the only thing still keeping me tethered to Windows right now, and I’d love to get out before they shove mandatory Copilot down my throat.

Got CachyOS with Plasma up and running. I did run into one snafu, on the page where you select the DE I unselected KDE and ended up at a command prompt after logging in. After thinking about it a minute I realized my mistake and loaded CachyOS again and corrected my boo boo. I haven't had a whole lot of time to explore it today but will as time allows. I did notice the package manager was kinda strange, guess I can get used to it.

CachyOS comes with paru by default, which is technically an AUR helper, but also allows you to install software via the Arch/CachyOS repos. You can also use pacman to install from official Arch/CachyOS repo's.

If you want a GUI solution, CachyOS comes with Octopi - however I suggest you become familiar with terminal so you understand what's going on behind the scenes. Terminal isn't scary, in fact once you get used to installing software under terminal using your distro's package manager everything else seems co convoluted and inefficient.

Pretty sure Jasper has run Linux quite a bit in the past, just not Arch.

My longest install and still haven't looked back. Every day is gets easier.
Erm, so thanks for the thread! I never heard of this fork before here. Using it on my personal NUC at the office as a permanent replacement for Windows. Very much liking it. LibreOffice working with spell check. ✅ I happen to like Outlook so Evolution installed and working. ✅ Pacman working. ✅ Lockscreen with password and slideshow images. ✅ Linux ✅ Better than EVAR! ✅ ✅✅✅✅✅ This is unreal. I'm a die hard Windows user and Arch Linux with it's exceptionally well designed and easy to use forks are KILLING it. ✅ CachyOS on my main rig at home for gaming, and I'll be jumping to Endeavour at home as well for the office and personal banking stuff. Plus, VirtualBox works really, really well too. Windows can die in a fire!

Anyone here run an eGPU in Linux? Having issues with Fedora and Mint.

Glad you like it! I heard about it before CachyOS and once I have something set up I don't want to go experimenting and trying something else. So I'll probably never get to try CachyOS.

I just made it full 3 weeks running Linux cold turkey from Windows. Granted its small time compared to a year..
This is the longest I've ever made it, and never had the urge to move back to Windows. Was even able to log in to my Citrix environment for work, and my audio interface + peripherals pass through and function just as they would have on Windows .

Its almost an empowering type of feeling.

This is actually crazy thinking about this as being a Windows Server engineer is what pays my bills. 🤣

CachyOS can do all of that just as well & possibly better due to performance improvements. I used to use EndeavourOS & I'm not going back to it as my daily driver.
