Allendale vs. Conroe

Only the E4300 is a true Allendale, built specifically from the start with 2mb cache. E6300 and up are all Conroes, built with 4mb cache in mind, only on the 6300 and 6400 with half of it disabled (purportedly). It's there, we just can't get at it. Allendales are locked at 200fsb, while Conroes are 266fsb default. Also all but the 4300 have the virtualization tech in them....

So why does the E6300 and E6400 act like the true Allendale E4300 as far as temp software goes?

from what I understand the later 6300 were Allendale cores not Conroes which is partly why they didn't overclock as much as the earlier ones, not sure about the 6400 though.

That could very well be true, and I think my cpu is identified as a Conroe by CPU-Z....yep, just checked....it says Conroe.
 
My E4300 is identified as a Conroe as well by cpu-z so I wouldn't trust it to much.
 
Don't assume the E6300 and E6400 is only Conroes because there is a big bunch of them who are now Allendales. Just check the CPUz and see if it is 2 L2 instead of 6 B2 (former is Allendale while the latter is Conroe). Also if the code start with Q6xx, it's surely a Allendale.

Hardware VT would have been nice but I have more than one desktop anyways. I don't know how well Brisbane does for accelerating virtualization (Pacifica).

The sSpec number on your C2D box or on top of the processor tells all.

Yup, confirmed, SL9T9 here....makes sense too since my cpu likes to have 1.45v in bios to make 3200mhz rock solid.

Since I bumped the volts to that setting...it has not even had a hiccup, and this is where it is staying.
