so i have been told that i need a new cpu for better performance. the main thing i am trying to achieve is 60+ fps in tf2. right now i average about 30-40, but sometimes as low as 10-15. its not the internet as my ping is often in the single digits on my favorite servers. my specs are as follows:

psu: 430W Thermaltake
mobo: Asus P5LD2
cpu: Pentium D 805 (2.66GHz OC to 3.2GHz)
ram: 2GB (2x1GB) OCZ Gold DDR2 667
gfx: 512MB PNY GeForce 9800 GT

i was told to look at allendale and conroe processors. an e6xxx was suggested. can anyone tell me what will work best with the parts i already have, how much it will cost, and the best place to get it? idk anything about this stuff. there are a bunch of "your _____ is already limited by your ______ so a faster/bigger _______ wont get you any better gameplay performance"-type of things i dont know. so, suggestions? if you need any more info please ask!
 
You're not limited by too much except your current CPU. Fortunately, your current mobo supports Core 2, so that would probably be your best bet on an upgrade. How much are you willing to spend?

im willing to spend up to 80 or 90 bucks if i have to, but im wondering if i find one of these on ebay for cheaper is it ok or will there be problems? (id only get one after i make sure i can get a full refund if DOA. also, is thermal paste residue a problem?) if its not gonna be a very noticeable difference, id rather pay 20 or 30 less obviously for a slightly slower cpu. finally, what kind of OC can i run, or do i even need? i had my 2.66 pentium d 805 OC'd to 3.2 for 3 years now, so i was thinking OC a 2.4 to 3 or a little more?

another this worth mentioning is that i just need a cpu for THIS setup. any further upgrades will be a completely new system. i plan on switching to i7 or i5 or whatever in a year or so. and i am not opposed to getting a decent heat sink if i need one to overclock this thing a bit. i will need a decent one when i get an i7 and OC it anyway.

also, while were on the topic, is anyone selling an e6600 or similar for a good price? i am looking! :D (dont have the requisite 50 posts to make a WTB thread.)
