All my games except CS have speedhacks....

I played Halo last week, and unless I had the frame limiter on it would act like I was speedhacking or like I had timescale set to some large number when the GPU wasn't under serious load. When things got more intense the gameplay started to get more reasonable. The 30fps frame limiter fixed it so I chalked it up to Halo PC being several years old. Well, now it's doing the same thing with FarCry. Help? Using latest drivers (i forget the number, the thread is stickied) and a GTX.

Yeah, it's like timescale is set to 10 or something. The whole game is running much more quickly indoors, then I go outside and watch it chug.

Overclocked? :D

Or maybe you've got something screwing with the clock (Like some gaming utilities do)

Specs are in the sig. The CPU is at 2.6, but the GTX is untouched. Not using any 'utilities' unless you count the NVidia drivers. All I do is play with AA setting and such in them.

it's the framerate, does this not click for yourself? turn on vertical sync and use coolbits to force refresh rate to 60 or something low, it's just your fps going up and down that's why the limiter in halo fixes it

Hrmm... so speedhacks have something to do with people computers... Odd... vSync you guys are saying is most of the solution?

What other things cause this "Speed hack" I get it often in UT2004 in LAN with a lot of people... I never get it in singleplayer so i'm asuming it's when someones frame rate is different that the others and it cause a syncronization issue..

To Lsv: Why thank you! I never thought of that! I just mashed on the keyboard until the limiter turned on in Halo and fixed my problem, but apparently vSync is something you need a mouse to enable. Thank you very much for your sage advice. I'll now get back to doing more fun things like using the full tube of thermal grease for my HSF installation, hacking up my IDE connectors so I can insert them backward, or overvolting my x2 to, say, 2V. Have a nice day.

To everyone else: Of course I've tried vSync. What do you mean about disabling the second core - do you mean setting affinity? I'll give that a try. I don't want to disable it though because I'm folding on it.

Holy crap this is a sweet game when you have hardware to run it. Needless to say, there's a world of difference between running this on a 9800 pro and a gtx. The affinity thing worked, thanks guys!

Just so you know, you can do that in windows task manager, you don't need that program.

Being sarcastic most of the time is find and dandy, but don't do it when people are trying to help you.

I've heard of this problem with dual core cpus, but I forget exactly what causes it. You have to set the game to use only one of the cores.

my laptop speedhacks some games if you mess with the cool and quiet thing right before playing.

i got it to work in eq2 and i could run super fast and nothing could touch me, it would even let me zone before my char got to the zone line.

one thing that sucked tho was the cast bars would finish before i finished casting so i didnt know if i was still casting or not.

I am not exactly having this problem, but in CS source (or any source game) I have HUGE fps dips, like I can running in a hall way with 250 fps and then a gernade pops out somewhere and someone starts shootign I am starting at 40-50 fps on a dual 7800 gtx clocked at 490. This does not happen at all in any other game like doom 3, far cry, fear demo, bet on soldier, etc...

no matter what settings I use this is the same story. Playing on crappiest settings and i still dip that low which is ridiculous. I am using the 78.05 drivers (all previous ones are same story). thanks

no need to do that, just Ctrl+Alt+Dlt > Task Manager > Processes
find your game, right click, and change the Affinity to one CPU only
I know that but this doesn't always work with some games.

that may be true
the only game I've been playing is GTA: SA and that's what I have to do for it

didn't have a problem until I overclocked my CPU

you guys wanna try the original UT... its almost upplayable now days. makes me wanna break out my PCI TNT2.

Think we'll start using game profiles for MultiCores too? :p

try dropping your core clocks, I experience the same sort of thing when im using my card slightly overclocked past its limit, runs beautiful until something actually interesting happens lmao

these cards are factory overclocked, how much did you downclock it too before your fps was stable again? thanks

also, can my dual core proccessor (using an x2) be effecting my fps?
