Are all in wonder GFX cards actually worth the money? Ive heard its better to just buy a sperate tv tunner, a seperate capture card, and a sperate GFX. Ive been looking in to the ATI All-In-Wonder X800 XT. I hear the card is alright all around. Im just looking for some more opinions.

Well, it's certainly generally *cheaper* to go with a single 'All-In-Wonder' card vs buying the regular version of that card in addition to a TV tuner of the same quality level.

In addition, of course, you have no driver compatibility problems or anything to worry about - install the drivers out of the box, and everything will just work. Connect the cable in, and you are immediately watching TV.

Finally, the market is rarely flooded with them, so they tend to hold their value better over time than the 'regular' version of the card in question.

That said...there are certainly some disadvantages to the 'All-In-Wonder' line.

1) The TV tuner box is...largish. Not nearly as bad as in past generations, but it can definitely cause problems with after market HSFs. You are pretty much assured that the ATI Silencers won't fit. (OTOH, ATI has gotten pretty damn good with their stock solutions, so...maybe a moot point)

2) When it IS upgrade time....you upgrade your video card, you lose your TV tuner. Unless you buy another one, or buy another All-In-Wonder card.

Just some things to think about.
 
I've owned every AIW card produced, and I really like them. With the expection of this thread, I've never really had any trouble with them at all. Really the only drawback is when it comes to upgrading. AIW cards generally come out a few months later than their little brothers, but I usually wait for the first price drop anyway.

Also, MMC is one of the best TV apps out there IMHO. Easiest to use, and great looking picture quality. There's no doubt that hauppauge makes some very fine TV tuners, but in terms of real world viewing, I can't see a worthwile difference. The real advantage with a seperate tuner is that you can upgrade your graphics w/o worry.
