Anybody here ever use a "reasonable" color laser printer that has the all in one feature set (print/scan/copy/fax). I'm trying to decide between getting a ink-jet all in one + a laser B&W or just get a color laser all-in-one. Any comments?

* Reasonable = Less than $1k

Color Laser = $$$$

You might be able to find one thats not (all-in-one) for about $700-$800, of course i'm only going by retail HP prices.

just one thing to remember with color laser, a lot of them require you to replace the develpoer(i thing thats what it is, been awhile since i have looked at them) at the same time you replace the color toner, which pretty much makes the printer a throw away because of the cost.

do you mean the fuser?
All i do all day pretty much is work on printers, and people replace toner all the time in all the printers here, only time they need anything other than toner is usually a maint. kit. Which consists of a Fuser, Transfer Roller, and Paper Feed rollers. A maint kit can run anywhere from $200 to $500 depending on the printer. And usually don't need a maint. kit till about 200,000 pages also depending on the printer type.

Can I suggest not going all in one? It's a really bad Idea, IHMO..

Generally speaking, all in-ones tend to sneak in crap in subcomponents

A decent scanner for personal use is $50
a decent network scanner is $200.

the samsung clp500n network printer, or minolta-qms 2300DL network printer are under $400..

Fax? Heh. It's b&w anyhow.. brother : $99.00

and if your fax machine breaks, and it's out of warranty, you don't have to buy a new $900 device for the $99 part
