Well, well. Today after dinner, I was hoping to get a good round of Counter-Strike in. So, I launch Steam as usual, and connect to an fy server just for fun. After about a minute at this fy server, the computer hard-locks. Vertical lines up and down the screen, and then after a few minutes the screen goes black then gives me a wierd message that I forget. So, I restart and try again. This time the computer hard-locks after about one minute. The next time I try, right when it's done connecting. My brother says this happened to him once yesterday or a few days ago, but he just restarted and it didn't come back. So, I uninstall my Catalyst's completely, run driver cleaner, and then install the 4.1's. Restart, try again, and same thing. After restarting from the crash, I try to run Halo, and the same thing happens before I get to the main menu. Same thing with Unreal 2003. Turns out that all of my games are doing this! I checked my power supply voltages, and they are alright. I made sure that the fan on my video card was still spinning. My computer never did this before, and the last thing I need is another headache with it. Has anyone else had the same problem? Or would care to explain to me what the hell is happening? Oh yes, the system I'm running is in my signature. Please, before I go insane over another problem, someone help. :(

UPDATE: It turns out that Call of Duty didn't crash when I played it for a few minutes.

Well the funny lines and computer locking up like that sounds like its overheating.. I dont know what the cause could be but it seems possible as the video cards would go heat up more when its processing the data for games.
Perhaps clean off some dust if there is any?

It could be a number of things. Is the system stable while running programs in windows ? (not games obviously hehe).

If it is, then it could be that your video card is overheating and freezing up. In that case, check the fan on you video car, see if it's still working.

Another thing is your PSU. It could be dying, and when under load, it can't keep up the voltages and just craps out on you.

If the computer isn't stable in windows, again, check the PSU and video card. Also, try to swap them out with your friends video card and PSU and see if your computer still freezes on you.

Other than that, the only thing that's left is your mobo and memory. But if the computer is stable in windows, you shouldn't worry about those.

it could be...
A)Overheating (any fans died?)
B)Vid Card not seated fully in
C)Thermal Paste on CPU wearing out
D)Faulty PSU (or PSU has become faulty)
E)Faulty Memory (run memtest86 overnight to see)
F)Faulty Motherboard (swap out motherboards.)

- The video card fan is still spinning - I checked it.

- I just bought this power supply a couple of months ago, voltages are pretty solid.

- Thermal paste is no older than a month or two.

did you check the voltages under load? try running 3dmark 2001 and have motherboard monitor in the background .. see if they are fluctuating at all..

Also, if it's possible, borrow a video card from a friend and install it. Use driver cleaner to get rid of drivers first.

Well, I reseated the video card the RAM and now everything is running fine.....for now. You never know when these damn things plan to wreak havoc! Thank you for the advice, guys.
