I have a Q9400 (ES) and when I have core temp on my core temps at idle average 28 degrees except the last core. It floats around 32. Why is that? Theres no load on it or its no more than the other cores.

I know each core can be different temp. just was wondering why at idle the common temp is 28 except the one core. thought maybe norm that one core runs warmer due to something in the cpu.

many of the sensors stick in the downward direction. maybe 3 of yours wont go lower than 28, the other wont go lower than 32. it would not be the first 45nm quad i have seen with 4 broken sensors.

There are various reasons why the sensor might report a different temperature, which include possible variations between the temperature each core runs at, an uneven heatsink mount, imperfect thermal paste application, stuck sensors, etc. However, at the end of the day, the fact is that it doesn't matter a single bit. So just don't worry about it.

This. Or something is running in the background only utilizing one core. I wouldn't worry about it.
