I recently reformatted and decided to switch from using WMA lossless with WMP to Fubar/EAC/FLAC for my music management. So far I'm pretty happy, but the one thing I really liked about WMP was how it would find images of your CDs and set them to show up as the thumbnail view on that album's folder. Is there a way to do this short of google image searching for the CD picture and doing it manually? Can I tap into the WMP album cover image database somehow?

Amazon image is what you are looking for.
But I dunno if it works with flac files or not

Album Cover Art Downloader

Here's a program that will semi-automatically download album cover images for your music collection. All you have to do is point it at the root of your music directory and for each directory, the program will download a set of corresponding (well, best guess) album covers from the Internet, from which you can choose one that suits your fancy.

Currently supported image providers:

* Amazon.com

At least the following programs make use of the cover images:

* Ones that follow the FreeDesktop.org .desktop-entry spec, for example KDE and GNOME.
* Windows XP Explorer
* Windows Media Player 9+
* CDcover, an XMMS plugin
* CoverViewer, another XMMS plugin.
* wmalbum, a WindowMaker dock applet
* Various WinAMP plugins, for example Cover TAG.

Dear reader,

the beta version of the Amazon Cover Downloader is now available for download.

Because most of the coding was done between 23:30 and 1:30, I am sure that there are some bugs left in the code. happy.gif Please report any issues in the respective forum and I will do my best to fix the bugs as soon as possible.

What is ACD?
ACD is a program for downloading CD covers to your computer by using the Amazon Web Services.

How does ACD look like?

Nothing spectacular. biggrin.gif

How do I use ACD?
ACD can be used in an automatic or manual mode:

* The manual mode doesn't require any start parameters and can be launched by simply executing the program file. Before performing a query, you will have to manually enter your Amazon Web Services ID and a query string into the appropriate fields. After doing so, you will see all CD covers found as thumbnails and you will be able to choose which image to save and where the file should be placed.
* The automatic mode can operate in both an interactive and a silent mode.
The interactive mode pretty much maps the manual mode, the only difference being that the fields already contain the information passed via command line arguments.
The silent mode on the other hand does not show any window, but strictly relies on the information passed. Each option available in the GUI can also be configured via command line arguments.

Here is a full list of settings and some possible values:

* WSE=amazon.de - Web Service address
* SID=1234567890 - Web Service ID
* QRY=Pink Floyd The Wall - Query string
* OUT=C:\My Music - Output folder
* FNM=Cover.jpg - File name for image files
* MOD=1 - Operation mode; silent mode = 1, interactive mode = 0
* SIZ=2 - Image size; small = 0, medium = 1, large = 2
* FBK=1 - Fall back to smaller images when desired size is not available; true = 1, false = 0
* PIC=8 - Picture number to use
* TYP=Music - Media type (available types for Amazon US)

Each command line argument is separated by a double tilde ("~~"), for example: SID=1234567890~~QRY=Pink Floyd The Wall

What does it cost to use ACD?
The Amazon Cover Downloader is free to use. You may freely distribute the ACD package as long as no fee is charged and appropriate credit is given to the original author, MaresWEB.
If you would like to support the development of ACD, please donate a few bucks to my PayPal account or send me something from my Amazon Wishlist (German page, but the main buttons should be easy to understand).

Happy testing! smile.gif

Regards,
Sebastian

Thanks guys, nothing fruitful came up when I googled because I didn't realize the cover art was coming from Amazon.

I just added images to all my FLAC cd's, but I just used google's image search. The Album Art Cover Downloader didn't work worth a crap, it only found a whole 3 CD covers out of 187.

if the tags are wrong it wont find any, it found 345 out of the 350 albums I have.

All my FLAC is ripped by me, so it certainly does have correct tags =] I'm not sure why it didn't work though.. but either way, it wasn't that much of a hassle to do..I just did it while I talked to my girlfriend :D

It uses cddb's tags, so if they arent the exact same as cddb's then it wont find the right album art

Depends what you listen to really. If you've got a heap of popular CD's Amazon will have them but if you've got more obscure music Amazon won't have it.

Well, all my tags came from FreeDB, because that's all that EAC and foobar support, so that is probably the problem right there.
