Alan wake FYI

The best part was not that section, but the external link to Alan Wake winning a "Best of E3" award. That's "Best of E3, 2005."

 They need to show and have playable demo at E3.
If they take any longer, a different game may come out
that will make alot people forget about this game

Remedy has remained vague about Alan Wake, unwilling to give any information regarding the date of its release. When asked about a release date, Remedy representatives respond, "When it's done."

Yup, it's the new Duke Nukem Never.

I thought it might be coming out this year. Guess not. I wonder if they'll have a playable demo at E3. If not, I'll be disappointed.

So all the CPU physics in Alan Wake "comming soon" was just fluff to steal AGEIA's thunder....figures

To be fair, Blizzard, Valve and id will also tell you a game will be released 'when it's down.'

'When it's done' is a great sentiment for developers, as long as the group has solid leadership who know how to stay on project; and a business sense to know what really is 'done.'
In E3 2005, all that was really shown was a tech demo. I'm not sure anybody really could tell how much was actually there and how much of it was 'don't look behind the curtains.'

But like LostStorm said, if they don't have something playable that feels like Remedy has done enough refining of the game play mechanics to be something you can play and not just use a promo tool, then I think a lot of people are going to write this off as another 'oh yea, that was back at E3 again'

wait whats alan wake? i heard of a similar game announced 5 years ago. surely thats not the same one?

It wasn't 5 years ago, it was a while after AGEIA launched and this game was suppose to show that physics could do just as good on the CPU as on the PPU.
(Intel backed this very much)

ok, i just watched the game trailer for this game again, ya, it looks boring now. They should just can it or make something better and make a descent time frame of it.

Yeah, I was watching Kyles recent videos about ghostbusters and the infernal engine physics and couldn't help thinking about Alan Fake and it's apparent increasingly vapourware-like status. The Ghostbusters guys made it look easy.

..Heh "Alan Fake", I made myself lol...

Well, better than it being rushed out, by the sounds of it what with the emphasis on multithreading and lighting it could have been another crysis if it had been released, known as being a system killer than an actual game, at least if it is delayed then the tech will hopefully ow be able to play it fine.

With 3D Realms gone, somebody has to step up and be the perennially delayed vapor-ware.

Since Max Payne, by Remedy Entertainment, was published by 3D Realms, it's only fitting that they are the heir to the crown.

The Duke is dead, Hail to the new Duke.

It was 4 years ago. May 2005 is when the first announcements of the game by Remedy came out and the video was shown at E3. The trailer and tech demo and screens were breathtaking then. It's mundane now.

Another Silent Hill clone with soon to be last-gen graphics!

I think DNF and AW might be released as a bundle.. ;)

edit:

game looked amazing when it first came out :(

agreed... I guess it still does, but it's for sure not nearly as drool worthy now on an aesthetic level... it was also supposed to be the first full quad core optimized game.. I am hoping good content will make it a winner, not flashy graphics... if it ever does come out.. we will see. I hope it still looks nice also. :)

The question is will I give a shit? I was excited for this 3 years ago...

x2

while I understand why developers wouldn't want to speculate on potential release dates or give away too much info during development, I wish they'd keep everything quiet until they're ready to release it (if they want to do a media blackout like some studios have lately)

It becomes more frustrating than anything if you're anticipating a title like this (or DNF for that matter), especailly when they show you "teasers" 5 years in advance

The only logical thing you get out of this, is to question: Do they get some benefit from so much anticipation? What is better? Do it like this? Or just do it like Blizzard? Or be silent until you're about to release?

man...this game has been delayed for 3 years....not really looking forward to it anymore. Wonder why remedy delayed it. :(

well wikipedia is written by other people, you rely on it that much? It was announced back in 2005 short while after Max Payne 2 was released by Remedy and the game was expected to be released late 06 possibly early 07. Then god knows what happened it was then marked as TBC. And everyone forgot about the game..and last year they announced it again and now its delayed again and who knows whether it is gonna be released. Its kinda the same thing to what happened to Duke Nukem Forever which, god knows whether that game is gonna be released to die hard Nukem fans. hail to da king baby :) :(

Everything on the net that you didn't write is written by other people.

All i'm saying is everything I heard about this game coincides with the wiki. If you have documentation to the opposite....

Nor does it really matter how long something is delayed. It's here when it's here.
