I wish i had the opportunity to see the al2051w in stores before I order it from newegg. The following review has me very worried about the quality of the product. Does anyone
a) own this monitor and..
b) able to hear very subtle noises and high pitched whines.

I am very very perceptive to high pitched noises and I would end up returning the monitor if the noises were present and end up eating the 15 % restocking fee from newegg.

"I own the Acer AL2051W at home and I have one at work (the work monitor constantly remains on 24 hours a day, 7 days per week), and I have read other user reviews so I want to confirm and expand on what others have mentioned. ------------

PROS:

- Excellent image quality (although one issue)

- Low center of gravity / panel does not wobble as people walk near

- Low price

CONS:

- Easily seen with a solid grey (gray) or medium blue image, there are pulsing or dancing waves or flickers of light seemingly behind the image displayed. Adjusting brightness and contrast makes this effect easier or harder to see. This is a unit-wide issue but not a bother if the user adjusts the settings.

- In a very quiet environment, the monitor creates an audible whine, whistle, and high pitched electronic buzz. Actually, there are 4 different noises emitted form the Acer AL2051W.

1) In standby mode, there is what sounds like a high pressure whistle. Disconnect the power cord from the outlet, and the whistles tone drops as if pressure is being released and then it stops in about 10 seconds. This noise is the second loudest.

2) When the monitor is on, but the PC cable is not attached, there is a faint electronic flittering sound or buzz. This is the quietest of all of the 4 noises.

3) When the monitor is on, and the PC cable is attached to a functioning PC, there is an electronic whine or high pitched flittering sound. This is the second quietest of all of the 4 noises.

4) When the monitor is on, and an audio cable is attached to a functioning PC, there is an electronic high pitched hum. This is the loudest of all of the 4 noises.

These noises are unit-wide with this Acer and also the similar BenQ model. It is easy for me to hear these different noises, but my wife does not notice unless I am connecting or disconnecting (doing a before and after), and the room is very quiet. In other words, people who can easily hear high pitch tones in a quiet setting will have a greater issue with these noises than someone who cannot pick up extremely high pitch tones."

I don't have an AL2051W but up until 2 weeks ago (sold to a friend) I had an Acer F-20 which has the same lcd panel but different casing and I didn't notice any noise at all. Of course my overclocked and overcooled pc is right under my desk drowning out anything that might compete for noise.;)

I've got 2 AL2051Ws and have neither the "solid gray" issue nor the noise. If i were him, i would send back the unit if his powersupply makes noise.
