I recently changed from my previous case to a scratchbuilt case, and in doing so, I had to remove my powersupply. According to my manual, I'm supposed to have a power extension cable that plugs into a normal 4 pin molex and connects to the plug on my video card.

Apparently, I've lost the cable. If I ever had it at all.

My question is this. It looks like a normal floppy drive molex will fit the plug on the card. Can I use that instead, or do I have to tear my room apart to find the special cable that ATI sent. It seems very strange to me that I'd misplace the cable, instead of just leaving it attached to the card. Regardless, I don't have one now.

you confuse me, i have had a 9800 pro it has normal 4pin power cable, you cna just conenct your power supply to it
 
It looks like a normal 4 pin connector, like one you'd find on a floppy drive. The manual mentions a "Power extension cable", which apparently is Y shaped, with two normal sized molex on two parts of the Y and on one end, a floppy looking connection.

I don't have a scanner, but http://www2.ati.com/manuals/AW9800Sr.pdf is the online manual. The connector that it mentions is found on page 13.

I'm going through all this trouble because I really don't want to fry my video card.

ok, i really want to help you out but stop comparing it to a floppy, floppy drives usually ahve different ones, let me find you a picture, look at it and tell me if thats waht you have.

its very hard to fin d a good pic, and i am too lazy to take out my x800 and take a picture. well look at the cable if thats the one you ar etalking about, you do not need it, jsut connect the power supply to it
 
It's a standard 4-pin 'mini-molex' or 'floppy power connector' if you like. No need for the Y cable, just plug one of the floppy power connectors off your PSU straight into it.

The whole reason they include that Y adaptor is because some PSU's only have 1 of those connectors, and some people still like to use floppies and as such that one connector would already be occupied.
