So yea, on this pic the fans are not actually there, however now they are.

Four 80mm fans, 2 placed on top of the motherboard box, evenly spaced. The one above the heatsink is an intake, the other is blowing out. 2 placed on the side oposite the IO panel, both blowing out. is this good,? can i improve it? i can sketch up in paint if need be.

Im pretty much a noob with the whole airflow thing, i just know usually alot of outtake makes lless dust.
 
A sketch or pic would be a good idea. Negative pressure is good, so blow out more CFM than you are blowing in.

actually I'm pretty sure the opposite is true.

you want roughly the same pressures, with a preference towards having positive pressure because it keeps dust from getting sucked in through all the little ventilation holes and cracks and spaces between drives, etc.

But only if your intake fans are filtered, otherwise there's no point. Dust would still go through the cracks and crevices, just in the opposite direction.
 
Wasn't really worring about the dust factor, you can always blast that out with canned air. A few years ago I saw a study on different ways of arranging the cooling in a PC and the results showed that negative pressure resulted in greater cooling. Of course it was just someone in the modding community that carried out the study, not proper lab tests. Bet a thermal engineer could say instantly which way it is. If positive pressure does offer better cooling I'd like to know about it as I have all my machines set up as negative pressure due to that study.
 
NLX has some good suggestions, and they cover the advantages of chassis depressurization. With case design and airflow characteristics being so different from case to case, it's best to do your own tests and determine what works best for your specific application.

Well, I'm a materials engineer with an interest in heat transfer, and I would say that the differences in pressure we're considering here should really have no effect on cooling. These kind of fans can't really produce much pressure to begin with, so the pressure difference is actually miniscule. The factor that is going to be affected by your fan arrangement is ariflow- by having different amounts of resistance, you'll greatly reduce or increase airflow. So a setup in which you might seemingly have "negative pressure" may just be a less restrictive fan arrangement.
But that's just my opinion, you don't have to take my word for it :D

since I started here you've been full of good info...someone would have to show me some hardcore proof to make me not take your word on many things.

Thanks, I'm glad someone trusts me - alot of people are too set in their own "proven opinions" to even consider otherwise.
 
I may still try to "reinvent the wheel" and find out things for myself, but that's not because I don't believe people.

Not to dispute the point that these fans are not making any pressure (cause thier not) and I do think u are right about that Zero but, let me run this by u.... my friends and I were discussing this the other day... Would it not be better to have an equal proportion of air moving into the case as out of it to circumvent cfm loss by opposing values ie other fans pushing or pulling to much air causing dead spots in the case? This was the conclution that we were thinking the best ... also if u keep fans so that u have a more or less straight across shot from in to out with possibly a fan in between to blow air on to what u want (such as one fan in the front blowing in one in the back blowing out and one in the middle blowing on ur board) u should not disrupt the flow of air enough to cause dead spots but also maximize circulation.

Yes it is best to have the same amount of air coming in as going out, so as to not break any laws of physics, ie Conservation of Mass :D You really ALWAYS have the same amount going in as out. But I assume you mean something like this: having 2 50CFM fans as intakes and 2 50CFM fans as exhausts. Yes, this is probably the most efficient, and would theoretically result in a pressure differential between the inside and outside of the case of zero.
