I do not have an air compressor, what are my options as far as getting an airbrush 'kit' is concerned? I cannot go out and get a full size air compressor, I do not have the room for one at my current place. I am unsure if there is another route for painting with an airbrush, small jobs.. like computer cases and such.

I do airbrush artwork on PC cases and other stuff and i use only Iwata products for airbrush work as far as the actual tools go. Here is where you can look at their stuff.

Iwata web stie

They make by far the best stuff out there. I use various other products from Craig fraiser and stuff (like stencils) but for actual air brush and compressors i use the Iwata. Ive tried severa manufactures and none compare.. The paint you use will also make a big difference as well I use Martin Senoir and House of Kolor paints. Ive got some pics of my work if you wanna see.

well I have never used an airbrush, I just want to sand down and paint my case. Plus thinking about future mods or other painting needs. I am not aware of what the costs are for an airbrush and whatever else is needed to paint with it. What is a realistic dollar amount I would need to spend? I do not want super cheap stuff, but also do not need the best either, somewhere in the middle.

Eh, I've got an airbrush that I've had for almost 3 years now. It's made by Aztec, and designed for Testors paint. I don't use it a whole lot so a full out air compresor was not worth it. Whenever I do happen to use it though, I go out to the art store downtown and buy what looks like a spray paint can that is compressed air in a can designed for airbrushing.

Edit: I forgot to mention prices. The airbrush I have is a very nice one, at least it works great for my needs. I got it for a birthday present but I believe it retailed for around $100 at the time. The air cans run about 8 bucks a piece and last for a pretty long time. One can lasts me about 15-16 bottles of paint.

Great, that sounds like about what I am looking for. I will check around see what I can find, Thanks for the info!

Yea, I like my Aztec too. Got the full kit, without the compressor. I have an old Binks diaphragm airbrush compressor from the 1970's and it works great for me, added a regulator and separator for 80 bucks. I must say that the airbrush tips are kinda fragile though. Not to fond of some of their plastic needle tips either. I like a full metal tip for everyday use. The duel action trigger takes some getting used to as well, it's got an adjustment to make it single action though.

Can't remember where I saw it but there was this guy doing airbrush work on t-shirts and he was using an airbrush that you blew into. Don't know if it was a home made jobbie or what but if you don't do a lot of airbrush work that would be a cheap way of doing it.

Went to their site, but it was a bit confusing. Too many selections...

So what would be a good Iwata airbrush for a beginner? Are these bottles of air any good? Someone else told me they tend to cause orange peel due to varying spray pressure. Is this true? What is a good solidly made compressor. Mainly want to spray small parts and case sides.

Personally, I swear by the Badger 155 'Anthem'. If you want to make any kind of fine lines you want some kind of double-action, internal mix airbrush.

If you don't plan on doing any fine lines, just basic application, a Testors Multi-Purpose Sprayer would probably do. Although a really basic one like that will only be marginally better then a spray can.
