I am getting a pretty nice up to 35 psi airbrush compressor and gun for free from my sister. I was wondering if any of you guys have used this type of setup for painting a case. I have seen lots of stuff painted onto the case that looks very nice with an airbrush like flames and other graphics but I am wanting to know how good you could paint the case say a solid color like black. Is this feasable (don't think that is spelled right) or is it just as easy to use DupliColor or PlastiKote. Thanks, ohh if you have any links to some pics of cases that were painted with airbrush I would like to see them as well.

Airbrushing a solid color would work great... remember, that's what auto body shops use. Now, that having been said, they don't use hobby guns. Most airbrushes for the hobbiest market are not designed for painting large areas and are really more suited for detail work.

That having been said, yes you could use it. Practice A LOT! From my experience airbrushes are NOTHING like painting with a can of spray paint and they really do take "spray" painting into an artform rather than slapping some color on top of something.

Research your paint also, different paints with different thinners will work much better than others.

The real advantage of hobby airbrushes is the ability to custom mix colors and apply them evenly without brushstrokes. If you're looking to paint your case a solid color that is manufactured and readily available I'd suggest sticking with traditional, propellant/compressed spray paints.

IMHO painting an entire case one color with an airbrush would be like scrubbing the kitchen floor with a toothbrush. If the compressor has the volume try to at least get a jam gun.
edit: Like this.
