air-flow issues with heater core...

ok guys, i just cleaned out an area for my heater core. and while it works(the space), i am curious, how much room should i give the heater core to "breath". one 5 1/4, 2, none?

the heater core is situated at(inside) the top of my case with a 120mm fan w/ shroud pulling air out of the case.
