Has anyone got a guide to building one? for the purpose of trapping dust and cat hairs effectively before it gets into my PC?

I have air filters already on my fans but its not enough, specially with my long hair cat shedding his fur everywhere.

is it possibly just to build a bx with a 120 mm fan and air filters.. would that do the trick?

If it's air filtration for a case, Bluefront is the man to call. Head on over to the SPCR forums and check his work out. ;)

Axial fans typically don't have enough pressure to move air through any serious filter medium. What type of filters are you using? I'm using some foam filter designed for window AC units and it traps quite a bit of dust.

i was just planning to use those filters u find in the hardware store that u place in air ducts for a central air system.

im looking for his posts now on the spcr forums

That'll work, but I think it would be much more effective with a blower rather than an axial fan.

EvilNick, mind linking to said projects by Bluefront about filtering? i can't seem t find what you might be talking about.

Here's a page of some people's DIY systems including Bluefront's old Lanboy.

But that's a pretty old article. His newer stuff will be in the forums, I can't remember them exactly, but check out the Cases & Damping sub-forum as well as General Gallery. Do a search for post by Bluefront containing words like "dust" and "filter". You should get a bunch of his threads. ;)
