Air Cooling Ideas

I'm looking to do something a little different with my LAN rigs air cooling setup.

So I started thinking about some things and thought maybe some of you would have clues as to where I can grab any of these items or if you've done something similair.

1.) I have 4 free 5.25" slot in the front of my LAN rigs X-Dreamer II. They will never get used and I'm just getting bored with them. So I came up with the bright idea of mounting some fans in the slots some how. Now, I've seen this and from the looks it seems it lays flat wise and will suck air in through the side. But I was wanting something that would mount up and down horizontal. Any idea's on this?

2.) I ordered a Silencer for my 6800nu and I plan on taking off the plastic shroud and placing this in front of it to add even more to the cooling. It would be a lot of air and I'd plan on maybe running a duct from the slot openings to the fans in order to bring cool air from behind the case to the Silencer.

I'm trying to go for something a little bit different here as far as air cooling only. It has to stay air cooling only since its my LAN rig and is moved/carried around often and I just dont trust my own WCing set up skills enough to move around a WC set up.

Soooooo, am I insane? A little to flashy maybe? Any ideas?

How do you have 4 free 5.25 bays open, don't you have any CD drives? I have the same case, mine is green :). I'd fill up the 2 masked bays w/ cd/dvd rom drives. I bought the $5 aerogate 1(svc) to fill up a 5.25 and I'm probably gonna get a front I/O plate (but I need to get a better board 1st...) Those card things don't do that much from my experience. I'd say get round cables if you don't already, get some 12" cathodes (SVC has the blue logisys ones on sale for $3.99) and get some fans to put in the open bays if you don't already, for HDD cooling (svc has white coolermaster LED fans for 99cents). Just my to cents, I'm just not too keen on those goofy PCI fan cards and 5.25 fan jobs.

What you can do is .

get a dremel, cut a whole for a 12cm fan into your 4 empty 5.25 bay covers .. Install fan. I hope you have an outake on the top of the case. I believe this will be a very efficient way of cooling the case. You would cool the hot air in the case and at the same time, the convection will take the cold air downwards and the hot air towards the top which will exhaust. So you would have a very effective air conditioner, if your room temps are low.

Do not remove the plastic shroud. It's very useful. You will just ruin the whole point of have a Silencer.

If you want blue lights, buy a CCFL kit or LED's.
