new build Core Due 2 e6600.. Overclocking will be the name of the game.. What air cooler should i be looking at... I was looking at the zalman9500.. any other thoughts i should be looking at..

Thanks..

Stay away from the Zalman 9500 for heavy OCing. Get the Skythe Infinity, i have one and its great. i usualy idle around 32C, and i jsut received my C2D and havent done raely any ocing much, but i was able to hit 3.1GHz (waiting till this weekend to OC some more) and it is idling about 34C right now. and it is pretty close to slient when at full speed (23Db).

If aircooled oc'ing is your game, then I would recommend the Titan Amanda, although I hear it wont be out in mass for about a month. If you can't wait, the Monsoon II is a similarly designed unit and readily available, but at a premium price of $150 (and trades a second 92mm fan for a 5.25" control unit - it's something that sets them apart, but not in a good way, imo).

Thermalright Ultra 120

Scythe Infinity

Or even better, the Tuniq Tower, that is if you can find one. ;)

I think we can help you out with ALL of those. ;)

Top coolers at the moment are-

Zalman 9500- Comes with a fan controller, does not take up lots of space and decent performance. Easy to install too.

Scythe Ninja- Very easy to install with the new revison, great cooling performance

Thermalright SI-128- A very well rounded cooler

Thermalright Ultra 120- A very well made cooler, beats the Infinity and Ninja, but Ninja is better with low cfm fans. Please be aware its very tall

Scythe Infinity- A good choice but I reckon an ultra 120 or Scythe Ninja is a better choice.

I disagree with the 9500. My experience with Zalman products besides their NB passive heatsinks has been far from spectacular.

where do you get that conclusion??? the Infinity is far superior than its little brother Ninja, and arguably the best Air cooler out there

I'm kinda interested to see where you get that conclusion about the Infinity ....

Realisticly, you will not put 2x 81cfm delta's on a Infinity.

Thats a kind of unfair test as I would use 1 fan, instead of the 2.

The Scythe Infinity is a good heatsink but-

The Scythe Ninja is better in a passive/ very low cfm situation-

The Thermalright Ultra 120 is ever so slightly better in a normal cfm situation.

Im not saying the infinity is crap, Im just saying that there are alternatives which maybe better for your situation.

The Zalman 9500 is a great heatsink. Name me one heatsink that is-

Quiet
Comes with a fan controller
Very easy to install
Matches a Scythe Ninja at 12V
Compact
And supports nearly all sockets.

That being said, im replacing mine with a Ninja.

The zalman9500 is nice, it performs within 2c of all of the other ones mentioned here just plug it directly into the motherboard and skip the fan controller.

Right now I am running a x2 3800 @ 2.5 (due to my shit mobo) and my idle is 27c load 33c

Thats very comparable to the others, and it took a whole 3 minutes to install.

uhm.....yeah, I think I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with your there bud!

dunno where you get your numbers from, or how you come to such opiniated conclusions from, but as of today, the Scythe infinity is one of the best, if not the best Air cooled solution:

and MANY other links....
;)

Yeah I didnt say it was crap, but If I was looking for a silent low cfm heatsink I would chose the ninja.

If I was looking for a performance heatsink I would chose the Ultra 120.

Im not saying its crap, Im just saying I would chose those 2 instead of the Infinity. But it is a great heatsink.
