seems like no one uses aib ram on hardforum or amdmb.com forum.. but their pc4200 cas2.5 is $168 for 2x512 chips! so itll work up to 266(533) fsb supposedly

what kind of timings are we talking about with these? i mean is it enough of a performance boost to justify paying double for the 2-2-2-7 type namebrand pc3500 ram? ive always got high quality ram in the past(mushkin, corsair xms),

but seeing this ram makes me think.

1. i can get a gig of ram instead of 512(which would be helpful for the applications i use)
2. i wont be afraid of ram being the bottleneck while overclocking, i mean its pc4200 ram afterall.

the only consequence i see is looser memory timings, which arent a huge deal with games right? i just cant seem to find info on memory timings for this ram, wouldit be around 2.5 4 4 11?
having a fat FSB is most important right? since bandwith is the issue? someone tell me im insane or is this an ok deal

Hmm, I don't see what the catch would be. I've seen some studies that one guy here on hardforum did, and timings do matter, but not nearly as much as bandwidth. If you can get some extra mhZ out of your CPU with that ram, it should more than make up for the timing...

Don't listen to me though, I probably don't know what I'm talking about :p

I've seen and done alot of studies myself and more and more bandwidth doesn't help in performance. Games especially can only use a certain amount of bandwidth effectively. Some heavy applications can benefit from greater bandwidth but timings are primarily the most important thing. Timings alone will affect performance 3-5% if you can run 2-2-2 or 2-3-2 instead of the lax timings found with PC3700 and higher.

Has noone even noticed that the A64 3400+ with a third of the bandwidth as the FX-51 performs the same in almost every benchmark except a very few. The gaming performance is within 1-2 FPS. The 3400+ even beats the FX-51 in several gaming benches.

The Pentium 4 already has dual channel which effectively doubles bandwidth to 6.4GB/s. Thats more than enough to feed the processors needs. Once you reach the amount the processor can use you really aren't benefitting yourself by adding more bandwidth.

Stick with PC3200 or PC3500 with aggressive timings. You can get Mushkin PC3500 lvl 1 2x512MB for $210-220.
