Should I be using this setting in the BIOS of my DS3, or is the performance about the same as IDE mode for my SATA controllers? I've never seen this setting before, and the manual doesn't explain what it actually is. I have a WD SE16 drive connected to the Intel SATA ports on the DS3.
 
Others have reported that storage performance of P965/ICH8R is pretty rotten in IDE mode. While AHCI does resolve the performance issues, using it requires providing the F6 drivers during Windows setup with either a floppy or a slipstreamed CD.
 
Damn...looks like I'll be using NLite...which I was trying to avoid.
 
Ah crap, I gotta reinstall. This would explain why it takes so long to load up CoH.
 
I read that link earlier, hoping it would have some performance insight.
 
Can I use a USB floppy drive to load the drivers during the "F6" process, or do I need an internal one?

What drivers would I load when I use F6?? I'm not using RAID, and im not using the 2 gigabyte sata ports... I have my HDD using SATA1 on the intel controller. I dont mean to sound rude, but my IDE performance is CRAP, and I think this is my problem, so if someone could point me in the direction of which driver to install, I should be good to go.

I dont mean to "hijack" this thread, but in reguards to using this DS3 motherboard, there is an option in the BIOS named something like SATA MODE NATIVE (enabled, disabled) I just noticed it was set to DISABLED, so I ENABLED it, and windows seemed like it booted faster. So my question here is, what the hell is native mode and IS IT FASTER? Im getting confused now. Thank you
