i just received a new hp with a 64 amd 3500+ proc. it says its 2.2 ghz, but when i check the system info it only says 1.77, now i feel like im getting screwed out of that extra speed, anyone have any info or suggestions?

im sorry, but i dont know too much about computers, can you please explain that or tell me how to switch it back to the stock 2.2?

basically the processor downclocks itself when its not in use (hence the cpu fan can spin lower and quieter operation).

since you have a hp computer disabling cool n quiet might be a bit tricky. go into your bios and look for a cool n quiet option. if its there disable it and you should be all set.

will it speed up if necessary to accomodate for games and such? b/c i remember going back to it and i checked it right away and it was 987 mhz then i started something and it was 1.77. think thats it? is bios like the setup screen? if i turn off cool n quiet will that possibly hurt my computer?

turning off cool n quiet will not hurt your computer. 987mhz sounds like cool n quiet. that 1.77GHZ number is throwing me off though. amd 64 3500+ runs at 2.2GHZ. you sure you got a amd 64 3500+ and not a 3000+ (runs at 1.8ghz)?

hm it was on some energy star setting and i changed it to full power and its at 2.2 now ^^
