Hey Hardforum when I go to my ati control panel and I want to put my card at 4x, or 8x I click on it and it says to restart, once I restart I check if its on 4x, or 8x and it keeps say agp speed OFF.
why doesnt it let me change it?
Specs:Radeon 9800 128mb Pro
+2500 AMD Barton
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
512 Geil PC3200 Ram
thanks Hardforum.

Upgrade you bios for your motherboard. Chances are that your AGP drivers arent upgraded to support 8x. I have a gigabyte 7VAX which had the same problem. So just download the bios and update

-Nick:)

its an nf2 board im sure the agp 8x support is there, just install the Nforce drivers and that should go away though you should have installed them a while ago :\

I updated bios let me try installing the nforce drivers thanks for the response guys.

Know it works but still like I posted a while back my Radeon 9800 Pro still freezes almost every 20seconds and lags pretty bad. Including that it feels like my +2500 Barton runs slower than a 1ghz AMD, so I dont know what else to do, Ive reformatted, exhanged the Radeon for a new 1, changed ram, and know Im clueless??? Thanks so much guys for helping me with the 4x,8x support, I just really wanted this computer to run good but its been a nightmare for the past 3weeks.

not having all your motherboard drivers = bad

if windows dosn't have a driver it will use it's craptacular generic one...so install all of your mobo drivers and see if it fixes the problem

Would hard drives play any parts in this problem because I run 2 hard drives both on 1 IDE cable, one of my hard drives makes a buzz sound when im going into that certain hard drive.
The hard drives are WD 60gb 7200rpm, the other is a Seagate 40gb 5600rpm.

sounds like one of the hard drives are going to crap out soon. Anyways go to your mobo manufacturer's website and download the bios for your mobo. That is prolly the problem.

Ya it seems its going that way but I already upgraded my bios but would the hard drives have any part in these problems?

try this
format
install windows
sp1
nforce drivers
videocard drivers
in that order
if it doesnt work ur mobo is pooched, i had one go bad a few days ago, 9800pro was lagging like a @#%$@ on even 3DM 2001SE :) so give that a try then rma ur bord
