I've been borrowing my buddy's crappy card for what seems like forever now because I told him I was waiting for the 6600 series to come out. I've never really known the difference between AGP and PCI-Express, but figured off of here that AGP was the way to go.

The board i have, the common A7N8X-E Deluxe has I think 5 PCI slots, and 1 AGP. I don't have any other add on cards besides the 56k modem in there right now, and I don't see myself adding a sound card, tv tuner, or anything else extra.

There's enough PCI versions of the 6600GT that I'd feel comfortable buying one right now, but should I wait for the AGP? basically, what's the difference?

I get the feeling that I've been waiting for the AGP for no apparent reason when I could get the PCI version now.

The 6600GT's come in PCI Express, which is better than AGP.

PCI is something totally different and far worse than AGP.

If you have an AGP motherboard and don't want to completly upgrade yoursystem then you have to get the AGP card.

THE PCI EXPRESS WILL NOT WORK

AGP, PCI and PCI Express are ALL different slots on your motherboard, and one card won't fit in any of the other kinds of slots. Currently PCI-E is being adopted as the newest graphics port. It doesn't currently offer any benefit over AGP 8x or AGP 4x. The bandwidth's are as follows PCI-E ~4GB/s AGP 8x 2.1GB/s AGP 4x 1GB/s. If the bandwidth isn't exceeded with 4x, 8x AGP is plenty of room for data to pass through, its not accelerating it any if you have extra bandwidth, its simply going to waste.

ok so in this case:

Slots: 1x AGP Pro/8X, 5x PCI, 1x Wi-Fi

it would be my only and best option to go with AGP. I think I got these 3 figured out now...
