Well, right now im using a 9700 pro. Ive been looking to upgrade, and I just recently bought a new mobo (I have a 3200+, 400 fsb on a Chaintech NIL1 - mATX). Would I really see a performance boost between somthing like a x800 XT AGP, and an x800 XT PCI-E? Its looking like PCI-E is cheaper, but I would have to buy a new mobo, cpu, etc. I can also RMA this 9700 pro for a 9800 pro, but it doesnt seem like a huge boost for me.

AGP or PCI-E?

There is actualy a differance in performance, though this statement is Partaily true. PCI-E can handle up to two or three TIMES MORE bandwith than AGP, BUT there is not much (if any!) thing that can take advantige of the extra bandwith. Kinda like the new 64 bit processors; they are out but there is not much that can take advantige of it. PCI-E will become a lot more popular with the release of some of the NEXT-GEN 512 mb cards.

the bandwidth of PCIe will not be realized next gen, especailly since the boards will have up to 512 on them anyway. nothing can take advantage of even teh AGP8x bus, right now we are barely hitting the cieling of AGP4x. the move to PCIe is not one for graphics cards.Hobbit89 said:There is actualy a differance in performance, though this statement is Partaily true. as in, how long the interface is going to be around - youll be able to buy PCIe cards in two years, im willing to bet you wont be able to buy AGP cards then (or there will be very few)Skin said:lifespan as in.... resale value?
