AGP lock.

Hey guys, I run an overcloked P4 system and have the optin in my DFI lanparty bios to set an agp/pci lock. Which, obviously I have to do to run my system at higher clockes. But here is my question, does anybody sucessfully run their card above the 66mhz AGP bus? I have a 72 MHZ option that I run and wonder if an others do. And its speed increase and stability issues. I have a 6800U by the way. Thanks guys! :)
 
It all depends on the card.
Some cards handle higher bus speeds well, some not at all.
And it's not just your video card.
Anything on the PCI bus would be running overclocked, which includes HDD controllers.
So it's ALL got to be able to handle high bus speeds...
 
Could lower the life of your card and I doubt you will notice any speed improvements. I would suggest locking it whenever overclocking.
 
Yes you would see no improvement running it at 8x72 over 8x66 UNLESS 8x66mhz is fully saturated with I highly doubt. You might see improvement if you ran a card that could only handle 4x at 4x72 (if it could handle it) but your card is 8x and does not demand even the maximum of 8x66 so the improvement is imaterial.
 
question about the agp/pci locking when OC'ing. im getting a mobile barton 2600 and im going to OC it but my board(abit kx7--333(r) doesnt have a lock that i know of athough i have heard ppl get 185 Front Side Bus with it and a multiplier of 15 via crystalcpuid(huge speed). I have 6800nu and 512 pc2700 samsung ram w/ 350watt ps. Will agp and pci be OC'ed even if i only OC the cpu like 3 %? how does that work? thanks in advance

AGP 1x = 66mhz = Multiplier of 1 = 266MB/s
AGP 2x = 66mhz = Multiplier of 2 = 533MB/s
AGP 4x = 66mhz = Multiplier of 4 = 1066MB/s

While the bus should still be running at 33mhz for PCI and 66mhz at AGP, the resulting throughput of AGP is higher as the multiplier goes up. For some reason when I increased the actualy frequency of my AGP on my old motherboard it couldn't handle it and had to be turned down to 2x. The video card was still running a a frequency much higher than 66mhz but it was considerably more stable. Might have just been a weird card.

This was also done at a time whne 4x agp was considered overkill, and would only be used if swapping massive textures, I am sure 4x stock speeds would be faster than 2x overclocked in Today's games.
 
what speed is pci express? i heard there was lil performance difference b/w 8x and 4x in some games
