I have this disabled, was wondering what the advantage is of disabling it since everyone seems to recommend it. Thanks :).

It's for stability. If people are having lock ups they usually have it disabled. I have mine on because I have no issues with it enabled.
 
not really. I've never seen any bench where fastwrites helped or hindered (other than stability with it being off) on any card newer than a geforce2.
 
actually, that is very wrong. run 3dmark with fastwrites both off and on, and each time look at your cpu score. you will notice a pretty drastic difference. my score goes from 1080 with fastwrites on, to 721 with fastwrites off.

now, im not exactly sure what that means, but it seems to me that it affects your cpu performance during 3d applications.

In Synthetic benchmarks yes. But in realworld gaming I haven't seen a HUGE loss with it disabled. In general, it doesn't hurt to have it on if you're having no issues with your video card.
