Well I am kinda in the same boat as a few peeps here...But I am still on an AGP MB with a FX5700 256M I know AGP is dead or on its way to being dead. Dammit I want something for AGP NOW !!! Q4 AND C.O.D. 2, FEAR are just plain slowwwwwww on the card I have now. Don't even wanna play them like this.

So what AGP card would you guys suggest ? I will just upgrade my MB later this year anyway, but I don't want to wait to play a game that is out TODAY ! DUH I don't really care about saving my money at the moment. For me I will do it right and do a MB upgrade.vid card, drives, cpu etc. The whole nine yards !

I have AMD Barton XP 3200+
1gig of ram
80 an 60 gig WD drives IDE <-lame !

So whats a good AGP card for near or under $200 to feed my fix until I make the upgrade to a big boy system ?

Thanks !

You would have a few options...

6600GT AGP
X850XT AGP
7800GS AGP

Obvviouslythe 7800 us gunna be more than 200 bucks.

I just upgraded my rig to an Asus X850XT 256MB AGP jobbie, and im running FEAR on med to high settings with pretty smooth game play. (Athlon 64 3000+ 939pin @ 2.21Ghz, Asus A8V deluxe and a gig of Kingston Value Ram :p )

You sounded like I did a few weeks ago!! lol
I upgraded from my Gf5700Ultra to a evga 6800GS! I am so happy! I paid $209 from new egg...

5700 Ultra
3dMark2005: 849
3dMark2003: 3998

6800GS
3dMark2005: 4242
3dMark2003: 9231

:D
It's wonderfull to play FEAR and Quake 4 now, and all of the games I used to play look better and have much smoother frame rates... Thats' my story...

I thought the 7800 gs would be too much over kill for AGP... I'm saving the extra $100 for a new system... But I'm sooo happy with my 6800GS... It just breaths new life into my system

6800GS is your best option. Unlocked and overclocked its a 6800GT which will give you great performance for very little money ($200).

So between the 2

x1600xl vs 6800GS ?

And you say Newegg has the GS for 209 ? Nice hmmmm..I never have had a ATI card.
But I am open. I'm liking the 6800GS however ! I compared the 2 spec wise and they are dam close.

What do you guys think ?

Thanks again !

There are a couple of 6800GS's at newegg for abou $229. The EVGA one is clocked the highest stock and also the cheapest at $225.

Which 6800GS ?

eVGA 256-A8-N397-TX Geforce 6800GS 256MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail
That one is $225 ! Price go up ?

The AGP has a pixel pipeline quad that can potentially be unlocked as well as a ...vertex shader unit?

Don't forget the AGP and PCIe 6800GS use different model GPU's.

If you've got a FX5700 AGP video card then you don't need a new system. Just get a new video card.

However, if you've got a 6800 Ultra (like me) or 850XT PE, then you might bbe screwed :p

I'm going to wait until a game comes out that won't play adequately on a 6800 Ultra and that game I have not yet seen.

I have a x800gto AGP from newegg. It was $150, refubished. It's nice. I don't think it can be unlocked like the PCI-E, but will run 470/570. I think the 6800gs is better.
I do plan on upgrading cpu, mobo, ram and video card this summer or fall so I didn't want to spend too much on a card now. This is alot better then my 9600 AIW.

I've been running an X850XT PE on my AGP mobo since I built my current computer last summer. It's been running great. FEAR all settings turned up @ 1280x1024. It's either an X850XT / XT PE or a 7800GS if you want absolutely best performance and don't care about saving money.

Heh, the my 6800GT@400/1100 does quite well still in todays games at medium resolutions like 1024x768 and 1280x960, but I admit I have been eyeing the new graphics cards, maby a dangeorus thing to do as I have enough money to buy some new parts.
