AGP bus overclocking? (why is it there)

I noticed that my Bios has the option of raising my AGP bus frequency (up to 100Mhz). But I don't exactly understand why it isn't just an option to lock the bus speed.

What's the gain in increasing the AGP bus frequency?

I think its just for fine tuning when locking the bus speed isn't enough for your overclock. There is no improvement in performance by OCing the AGP clock (at least there wasn't for my 6800gt). I think its dangerous too.

Yeah... no idea... Nvidia has a technology to ramp up the AGP bus to near 10x speeds... But who needs it.

It's there so that you can watch in awe as no performance gains appear from raising it and thus highlight how pointless PCI express is other than to sell people two video cards instead of one.

That's what it's for ;)
