So... is the PCIE aperture linked to this? does it work different? or what. I have a hybrid board and it has an AGP size but nothing else.

agp aperature--as the name implies--is agp specific. the agp aperature is nothing but a cheap hack that was used to circumvent some of the lijmitations of the agp specification. pci-e does not have, nor does it need, something like that. on pci-e, an equivalent (and much more effective) technology would be hypermemory and turbocache.
Also, in Vista, when I change the setting, I can see a detected difference in video memory in the operating system.
