Okay i know generally and mostly new hardware is NOT as good as the old one until it's refined or whatever....

but i was wondering is AGP on it's way out??
And if so when "Generally". I am wondering becuase i am thinking of a graphics update but to do it i need to choose agp or pci-e.

and i don't want to buy a graphics card and end up 2 years later to change processors then need a pci-e graphic card.

generally speaking midrange and low end cards will be released in AGP for a few more years before they decide to completely ditch their bridge chip and build for only PCIe in mind

i wouldn't expect any top-end cards to be released for AGP anymore

Yeah, if you look at the sticky thread up above, you'll realize AGP is dead.
It happened around September of 2004. That's when I built the rig in the sig below.
The BFG 6800 Ultra OC Waterblock is the highest card you can buy, and I've got it.
At the time, there was no differance between AGP and PCI-E in the benchmarks.

Yes, my card is fast enough for todays games, but I'd like to do one more upgrade that will hold me over for 2 more years. I can't.

So basically everyone who wants to upgrade one more time, are being told to buy a new MB and move on. Problem with this, is that means tearing apart the machine and reformatting. It's like starting over from scratch. The people who suggest this make it seem so simple. Just upgrade your MB and move on. Yeah, right.

Two years from now when you change processors you will need to change the board anyways :p

How do you mean agp is dead? Or do you mean theya re not producing high-end only low-mid agp's becuase i still see them. As well ... what's SLI? i just saw it in a thread so i thought i'd ask.

http://www.slizone.com/page/slizone_faq.html (for sli questions)

Also yes no more high end middle range video cards will be made for AGP (best one you can get is a X850XT or 6800ultra)

www.evga.com 7800GT and a FREE SLI mobo comes with it.

These people also seem to forget that we're getting a new AMD socket next year. Meaning yet ANOTHER new mobo. Unless you´re fanatical about running at 1920x1200 you might as well wait for the next socket to come out and go PCI-E along with a new processor next year.

eh its not really free, since the price is about $75 more than just the 7800GT by itself. I guess you are saving money on the SLI mobo, but my point was that it's NOT free!

its not free, but with the extra money you pay for the card + MB (which is very nice to get all in one package) you end up paying about half the price for the MB

i also agree with you, that people should stop saying its free when you want to buy a brand new shiny PCIe VC, its just a cheaper way to upgrade, and easier too
