AGP 8x?

I currently have an Asus A7V333 (agp4x) motherboard, and I'm looking to upgrade my Ti4600 to a 6600GT. The 6600 is AGP 8x.... will it work in my motherboard, and if it will, will it be taken down to 4x?
 
it will work...but will work at 4x

may i suggest a motherboard upgrade also?

I have an A7V333 and a NF7-S rev 2 both awesome boards, but ya would recommend a board upgrade. A NF7-S would be a great budget board upgrade.

It will be taken down to 4x, which in 99% of the games out there will mean no more than about a 1% drop in framerates.

The AGP bus has more than enough bandwidth these days, even at 4x speeds. Basically what happened was back in the 1x and 2x days the CPU had to pass tons of data to the videocard because the videocard actually wasn't able to do very much of the work. It just rendered polygons after the CPU did all the really hard work.

These days the CPU just has to pass some minimal data across to the GPU because the GPU is doing 90% of the work on it's own. So unless your playing Doom3 at Ultra-high settings, so your videocard has to get texture data alot, your never going to notice the difference between 4x and 8x.
 
I would suggest you not worry about a new motherboard.

Yea 8x/4x comparisons are ussually within 2-3% performance.

Go for it.

i wanna see the same comparison with 3dmark 05..not a old 3d mark...

<1% difference.
