Fudzilla got their hands on an Agena AM2+ CPU and decided to see what would happen when they overclocked it. The results seem to be rather impressive.

You only need to increase the voltage from 1.273 to 1.297V and you hit over 3 GHz or 3042 MHz to be precise. This is an 1142 MHz overclock or 62 per cent from the stock speed and the machine was stable at all times.

I think for now I would treat this as a rumor/speculation piece as is it only one chip. However, that is a pretty nice boost.

Reminds me of the X2 3600+, with the 1.9 GHz stock clock speed, and the insane overclockability.

well then, it's good that I waited on upgrading I guess :p

i just wonder what the temps were. stable and running unstressed at 60C are 2 different beasts.

Agreed.

Another thing that I think about too is that we really haven't seen any benchmarks, even at stock speeds, to know what the performance is either. We really have no idea if this will be the next big thing.

I will make sure to edit the original story so that both sides are represented. :)

As I said in my second post, you never know.

The fake screenshot has been removed from fraudzilla. Too bad he didn't claim it was running Rydermark.

edit: ignore above, i clicked the wrong link. The screenshot is still there.

I am not too up on this, but it looks like some info can be modified on the CPU, and the CPUZ program can always be modified, but I haven't seen that the number of cores and the CPU name have been changed yet, just the "Specification." Some have said that the line "AMD Engineering Sample (ES)" is not in the CPUZ Program, it's only there without the "(ES)"

I agree that is is likely too early, and too good to be true, but I don't see yet a definitive reason to side either way. I am inclined to believe it, but, well, it could always be photoshopped I guess. The image does look like it was cropped out of something larger. With that possibility likely being easier, it is probably not worth trying to figure out if CPUZ can be hacked to get these results. Unless the name, "AMD Operton 148 (UC)" means something, it's been out since late 2003, http://techreport.com/reviews/2003q4/opteron-x48/index.x?pg=1. I've got an Opty 165 now. And with that, I think it is fake, but why? Ads I guess. Well, not from me thanks to no script. I haven't added them to my allow list yet. :)

I agree bro, there really isn't anything firm that suggests anything either way. Could be this, could be that. Either way a good piece of converstaion material. ;)

I will say that when I first received the link, I was skeptical myself.
