sorry for the bad spelling had a few.... on to the question are there any comparisons on the old ageia ppu vs. the new nvidia gpu adaptation???? I am curious... I have googled and cant find anything... this is the make or break on buying a new video card :D

They aren't benched yet against each other and all the GPgPU flafors.
For now you must estimate.

your 8800GTX have enough power to run most games decent and can mis a few shaders to ofload CPU PhysX.
But for Heavy PhysX you must turn down the setting to still get decent FPS.

I would wait on the 9800GTX+ release where the drivers are made public and possible there are what complet review who give the bigger picture.
And include also PPU vs 9800GTX(+) and GT260/280 benching with and without PhysX enabled.
And SLI options.

Keep in mind that nV put with that a EOL $100 Chip agains a lot to extreem more expensive chips.
So with current games is doesn't matter and even with current PhysX games it doesn;t matter. A 8800GTX wil do fine is my expectation.

The newer PhysX pushed TWIMTBP games how ever are develeped more or less with up to the full range of PhysX options the nV SM4.0 chips can deliver, in mind.

I think it would be better but not needed that much with current games.

It's about the games that wil come that make good use of it.

UT3 with PhysX map isn't.
cellfactor and Warmonger isn't.
But You get a idea whats possible.
Or you like these kind of games.

I like such feature more in games like
COD4MW
Graw2 Ageia island but then the full game.
Mass effect.
ArmaAsauld.
X3 The reunion

So the future is somewhat blurry And I wait till the fog clears.
By in depth reviews and new games making good use of it.

waiting for the killer PhysX game.

With that the prices of nV GPU lines and even new models will stabilise. And buy wenn you realy need them.
A GTX280 review showed what PhysX games where in produktion pipline.

I would be interested in the same comparison- if my dedicated ppu will be still supported and is as fast or faster then the GPU CUDA acceleration then it would change what GPU I buy next for my main system (ATI or Nvidia).

I have a 9800GTX setup at work, and a 8800GTX SLi + PPU at home, also a 8600GTS + PPU also at home.

I tried UT3 with the 3 systems, using geforce 177.39 and 8.06 physx drivers.

The 8800GTX cannot use PhysX so it has to rely on the PPU same goes for 8600GTS, nvidia is supposed to come up with new set of drivers that has larger support. On the other hand the 9800GTX has physx support, you just need to select it in your physx control panel.

3DMark Vantage
-9800GTX show superior physic results compared to the other computers setup

Unreal Tournament 3 Tornado
-8800GTX + PPU with a 10-12 better fps avg. the 9800GTX on the other hand has low fps dips 18-25fps, the 8600GTS has to play at lower resolutions to compare to the other two setup.

Unreal Tournament 3 Lighthouse
-8800GTX + PPU hands down, the 9800GTX is choking as soon as you start breaking stuff up, again the 8600GTS+PPU run circle around the 9800GTX at lower resolutions though.
Unreal Tournament 3 HeatRay
-8800GTX+PPU again, then 9800GTX and then 8600GTS+PPU

Nothing scientific all tests were run at 1680x1050, except for the 8600GTS I used 1440x900 because it couldn't keep up anyway.Settings to max on both machines except again for the 8600GTS I used one notch down from max.

Methink the new geforce drivers are just too young to prove anything, on the other hand, every results proved better than CPU...

negative, I haven't will look into this when I get back to work tomorrow.Hopefully this will prove to be good :)

Why would you assume there would be no hit on preformance when the GPU offloads shaders to do physics?

Seems logical to be that you would lose power to draw raw pixels...

I wait for new nV PhysX games wich have PhysX loads put to good use and can stress a dedicated GPU up to a full GTX280. Like a big step beyond the first dedicated step from PPU offerd.
Alien collonial marines maybe?

I look forward for mucho PhysX put to good use.

I'am afraid it will move slowly. It's all about the games. The killer games.

Back from work, thanks for the link btw Zogrim, ok it seems the trick is working but not as intented.Yes frame rate is much better, not up to par with a PPU but good nonetheless...

Thing is with these modifications I get some glitches and the cpu is working overtime, so is this the case of better software support or newborn drivers?

Anyway I just thought I'd keep you posted since you did some research for the lazy ones.
