Age old question: Seagate or WD? help

thats fine, you discounted it as them using consumer drives, i stated they are using exos drives, you asked where and i showed you. lol
You like seagate, i dont. Its not a big deal and im not gonna get into a back and forth with you after seeing your arguements in other threads.
Seems like they are getting some enterprise in the mix, which is par for their course as they inch their way back into the exact enterprise systems they were supposed to 'disrupt'. Standard 'disrupter' mentality where they think they can cut something by 1/10 when the reality when all is said and done is at best they're at 1/2---looking at you uber. o_O

Fair enough if that's your personal preference. I actually don't have a manufacturer preference vs a quality preference--I just don't like seeing falsehoods being thrown at Seagate using data from their sorted past that negates their current work and the excellent history they had prior to the stupid consumer crap invasion that pretty much affected every drive maker out there like Maxtor, Quantum, Connor, WD, IBM, etc.

They both suck :)
Thats not true. I still have 20+ year old spinner drives from both WD & Seagate that still work fine.

Buy what you can afford at the specs you want OP. But always remember (redundantcy) is key.

Had a bad experience with Toshiba warranty service years ago. Took me over a year and constantly nagging them to finally get my replacement drive. Never again, Toshiba can KMA.

To bad the sample size is too low, but at least I feel good about my 2x EXOS purchases. :)

Seriously, with the price of storage so cheap why not just buy the higher end drives. WD Gold, Seagate EXOS, etc. It's not $1500 v $800 it's like $150 v $100. (depending on size of course). Is the extra $50 worth it to not have to deal with a failure.

This isn't the first time I've heard of this. The other data point was an enterprise drive by someone on the STH forum. But almost any drive replacement now is a exercise in torture...

That's great to see. :) I totally agree with you, but there's a lot of people that thing the lesser drives like ones designed for a NAS are just as good. The day NAS drives come with SAS interfaces I might believe that.
