Age old question: Nvidia or AMD?

Nobody thinks that, we just realise you need modern hardware to run it at high detail. You can still run the game on fairly outdated hardware, just not quite as outdated as your old system...
 
It's been my experience that Radeon cards give more consistent framerates with less spikes and dips than Geforce cards. These more consistent framerates from Radeon cards result in smoother gameplay. That's one of the main reasons I chose 6970s in Tri-CF for my current gaming rig, and I am extremely happy with my choice.
 
That's an interesting observation, certainly up until recently, the opposite seemed to be more the case. Since so few test sites actually measure frame rate over time, however, there's not as much evidence to examine as I'd like.
 
A gtx 460 can run the game. At least the 1GB version meets the minimum recommended vram for what the game will need. OP is your 460 the 1GB model? If not then you will definitely need a better card. You could consider getting a second 1GB GTX 460 for SLi. A second 768MB GTX 460 isn't even an option so don't even think about htat.

For $300 you want to look for a GTX 570 or Radeon 6950. For the 6950 I'd recommend a 2gb model such as the sapphire toxic, msi twin frozr II or III.
