After Installing CPU Heatsink HDD Doesn't Respond

I just installed a COOLER MASTER GeminII S RR-CCH-PBU1-GP CPU Cooler over my AMD Athlon x2 processor. When I boot the computer the fans spin, including the heat sink fan and all the LEDs light up. Yet, I get no video, no beep code error, keyboard num lock doesn't light up and the hard drive doesn't engage. The heat sink is AM2 compatible. Everything worked great until after I installed the heat sink. Here are the specs:

OS: XP Pro 64 Bit
CPU: AMD Athlon x2 7850
Mobo: ECS A780GM
Ram: DDR2 2gigs x2
Video Card: Sapphire 100254HDMI Radeon HD4650
PSU: 490 watts
 
Open the case up and double check *all* of the cables. You likely unplugged something. Or broke something when putting on the new cooler...
 
Everything is plugged in. I tried booting to a bootable flash drive and it didn't work and it normally does. I can't see anything visibly broken. I guess I'll put the stock heat sink back on and see what happens. Sigh-back to the lab.
 
No beeps indicate a loss of connection between the processor and the motherboard. Sometimes this is caused by too much pressure. Try unclipping it, removing and reseating the processor, then putting the heatsink back but don't clip it, just hold it firmly against the processor.

I am confused at what exactly is the problem.

The title says HDD does not respond. But it seems to be more than a dead hard drive. Do you see the BIOS post screen? Then you are mentioning not being able to boot from a USB stick. It seems like then you do get a BIOS post. So disconnect the hard drive and see if then you can boot from the USB stick. None of this not booting will have anything to do with a CPU heatsink though. That is unless the motherboard was damaged when you put the heatsink in.

Edit: Okay from your first post the BIOS does not even post. I would remove all unnecissary devices (cards and connections) and try again.
 
Did you unplug by accident the cpu power cable? (4 pins by the socket)
 
I believe it was the heat sink pressing to tight against the processor. When I opened it up many of the pins were smashed-not just bent; smashed. I tried straitening them very gently with a credit card and one pin snapped off. I then held a funeral for my processor-10 gun salute. My little AM2 Athlon x2 Kuma fought the good fight. If you will all pause for a moment of silence it'd be sweet. sigh live and learn. I'm thinking of replacing it with an AM2 Phenom tri-core. Any thoughts?:(
