ok a couple months ago i stepped up my system to a 3.4 northwood, it was running awesome at 3.8GHz but i needed a couple more dvd-roms, so i upgraded my HD's to sata. ever since i did i havent been able to overclock. i go into bios bump up the fsb, reboot and it starts to load, recognizes all the dvd-roms, but doesnt recognize the HD's at all, so obviously it doesnt boot windows because its not detecting the drives, but when i go back into bios and set it back to stock speed, everything is recognized. i just got done updating the bios again and try it all again, but still same problem. anyone that can help me? this is really getting irritating

oh sorry, im talking about the system in my sig :) running windoze xp also

you remember to set the pci/agp ratio to fixed and at 33/66 mhz? your using the ich5 controlled ports and not the added on ones...right?

yeah i do have it set on fixed 33/66. not quite sure what u mean about added on ones?

SATA has limits to how high you can set your FSB. Well on mine, anyway. But the limit is pretty high, its like 270 or something. But I think at that speed HDD corruption can occur.

well i installed some drivers and connected to different sata ports, but now its not even worth it, its not even stable at 3.6GHz, and its a 3.4GHz processor, i used to be able to run 3.8GHz stable. thats just pathetic, i mean, its only 200MHz, i should be able to get that no problem, but it runs for about 30min then it blue screens. im almost pushed to just get water cooling and rebuilding my whole system.... this is getting really annoying

some sata ports are not locked and thus do not overclock well (mobo specific)

you prob have to get a new mobo with locked sata ports ot get a good OC
