I'm currently running an I7 950 and was wondering what's up next after the 2600K (specifically around the release of Battlefield 3 this fall)?

I can't find a road map that actually tells me where we'll be around the fall timeframe. My plan is to upgrade the processor, mobo and video card for the BF3 release.

Thanks

i7 950 is more than plenty for battlefield 3. definitely wont be worth it performance-wise to pay for a new mobo and a new high-end cpu for little to no performance gain. if you just got the upgrade itch, then sorry i got no helpful data. :D only thing that would make bf3 better for you is more/larger screens and/or another 470.

depending on what route you want to go SB-E might be an option. Socket 2011 is due out sometime 3rd/4th quarter. quad and six core processors, quad channel ram, more pcie lanes.

By that time it may be more cost efficient to get an x58 hex like a 970 or 980. by then they should be cheaper than a whole new setup of current gen parts and wouldn't be terribly far off in performance, especially for that game

Isn't BF3 going to be optimized for 8 cores? I mean, 2600k has HT, but I don't think that will account for the 4 physical cores.

for the 5 people who will actually have octocores when its released? yeah im pretty sure 4 will do just fine. current games see almost no improvement past 4 cores, but bf3 will. i still dont see how you could be cpu limited with a 950 and a gtx 470 though.
