Anyone have any suggestions on an affordable LCD HDTV? Looking to be around the 27~30in range, and looking to spend about 1grand total.
This will mostly be used for watching movies, and the Xbox360/PS3(when it comes)

yeah I saw that in action the other day, but unfortunately..$1grand is the absolute max and it already pushing my budget.

I'd recommend checking out FatWallet.com's 'Hot Deals' forum. That's where I browsed when looking for an HDTV, and I settled for a refurbished Vizio 37" LCD with NTSC and ATSC tuners for ~$675. I haven't been able to head home yet to check it out (had to mail it there and not my dorm address), but my parents opened it anyway and said everything's in order. Other recently-departed deals include a 40" Viewsonic LCD for $900 after rebate.

Stuff like that pops up all the time there, especially with HDTV prices falling as fast as they are. If no deals come your way, you can try OfficeDepot.com (or one of their B&M stores if you prefer) and check out the Syntax Olevia 432v. It's a 32" LCD with built-in NTSC/ATSC and I believe QAM tuners. Syntax LCD's are at the upper echelon of quality in terms of budget LCD's (Syntax, Westinghouse, etc.), and it's gotten pretty good reviews from early adopters. It's either $699.99 or $749.99 with no rebate hassles. It doesn't do 1080p, which you may want when the PS3 and XBOX 360 games that support it hit, but at that pricepoint it's to be expected. It'll still much more than serviceable for the needs you listed.

This one is quite a doozy. Two of my buddies have it and it is incredible, price and performance.

That's a model I was looking at about a year or so ago when I was in the market. That's an old model from Syntax and refurbished to boot, so I'd say a better route to go is this one:

This is the brand-new mid-entry 27" Syntax LCDTV for $500 after the rebate. It's only $30 more expensive than the 27HVX, is brand new and not refurbished, and the biggest plus is the built-in ATSC tuner, required to get OTA HD signals. The specs are also slightly better, although I haven't seen the set in person myself.

With your budget though, I suggest holding out for a nice deal to pop up on FatWallet for a nice 32" or 37" LCD. You may even get lucky and a deal like the Viewsonic 40" LCD for $900 will pop up again. Prices are dropping pretty rapidly, so it won't be very long before you see a deal that catches your eye. And I do recommend making sure the set you buy has an ATSC tuner for OTA HD signals. Depending on where you live, you can possibly use a cheap pair of rabbit ear antennas with the TV and get HD channels; OTA HD channels are pretty much considered to be of higher quality than what cable companies are currently offering.
