Ive been folding for [H] for quite some time now and tonight I decided to kick it up a notch by making every core in my aparment start folding (so up to 6 cores from 1).

In doing this I realized my main computer uses -advmethods switch and it seems to be doing higher point proteins more often then the rest.

What is -advmethods?

-advmethods allows your computer to download WUs (and potentially cores) that are either in Beta or have requirements WAY above normal (like QMDs). They can potentially cause instability (in the simulation, not in your computer), and usually have some sort of point bonus.

Also if your equipment is pretty stable use -forceasm for those rare times the system is restarted incorrectly.

You will never get beta wu's using advmethods, they are wu's that are just finished being beta tested and are not large wu's necessarilly. Just newer

What is -forceasm?

Is there a list of all the different switches?

Awesome thanks.

Back to folding :D

EDIT: Ive had problems with running on multiple cores and just figured out to use -local switch. But how does that work when you run them as a service automatically? I have my media center running two folding@home in seperate directories as a service on a Pentium D 940. Now when I configured them I set the -local switch but does that stay when its ran as a service or is there something else I need to do?

I, myself, do not use the -local as I don't see any difference when I've two instance running from two different folder. I never understood why this "-local" has been required or so. I've not had an issue with not using them.

If I were you, I would just have started configuring the folding by using cmd

What I do exactly to configure mine for BS and etc;
Start - Run;
cmd
d:\
cd Folding\Fold1
fah504_fold1.exe -forceasm -local -configonly [This is to set it up once and for all]

cd..
cd Folding\Fold2
fah504_fold2.exe -forceasm -local -configonly [Same as above but set to machine id2]

services.msc [start the two folding services from the services.msc list]

This is how I set mine up when I start folding. But I did the same thing only without -local part mentioned above. I guess it would be similar to what you will need to do in order to set up -local in the first place. Correct me if I'm mistaken.
