Advise on E4400

Please advise on the best course of action for folding on the following system(s). I spoke with the IT Dept, they will let me run a test trail on my workstation hopefully starting by the ending of the week, the computers doesn't ever turns off unless rebooting or something like that occurs.

My workstation;
Intel E4400 (2.0Ghz C2D)
1 GB
Win XP

Naturally I'm thinking of the 5.04 regular clients but I'm not sure whenever if I should enable big WU or not. This would be run as a service.

So I assume you can't OC it? If so then 2X std client. The 2.0Ghz probably won't be making the pref deadline if you go SMP.

Eww with only 1gig of ram i would stay away from the SMP client on that machine. I've got a P4 3.2ghz with 2gigs here at work and with work stuff open i'm at about 1.1 gigs used, that counts my single folding instance on it. So if you HATE paging, which i do with a passion, I'd stick with maybe 1 regular client or 2 if you're not doing any RAM heavy work on it.

Even if I had enough of ram, I wouldn't run SMP on this because it would be painfully slow, and yes I can't overclock it.

I am not doing so much intensive work, current the commit charge is at 541 megs out of 2,459 (RAM+PAGING) so I am not too worried about it, and the most resource hog app I use is Firefox at 140 at this time.

I use Spark + Firefox + Mirial for my work, about the only thing I ever need. RAM / Paging isn't a concern for my work at this time.

I agree, but what I was asking in regards to the clients, were the configurations themselves. I suppose I could run them with big WUs but from my collection, each big WU takes about 100 megs, give or take 10%. If this is the case then I don't see any issue with running big WUs. If this is not the case then I'll just run the small WUs.

I'm running the SMP client on my desktop machine at work - Dell Optiplex 745 with XP Pro, 1gig and E6400. Folding takes about 600mb of ram, plenty of room to use Office and Lotus Notes

Sounds like my machine except that I have a 3.0Ghz Pentium D (P4 dual core). Even if I had local administrator privileges I still wouldn't install the SMP client. I has nothing to do with RAM use but the buggy nature of the SMP client as well as the extra bandwidth needed for transferring the results. I have a couple work units on my machines at home which look to have a 15-16 meg result. I'm not comforable having that much upload for this.

I just have two regular console clients setup for bigpackets and advanced methods and it works just fine. It's not very good PPD at a little over 250PPD but it's better than nothing and a bit over twice what my previous P4 2.8 single core was doing.
