Ok, my 2 year old Windows 7 is starting to act a bit foobar.

Going to install a fresh Windows 8.1.

What hints on steps, tricks, preps, downloads, whatever to bringing the system up to speed?

System as per signature, and pretty much, as standard system, gamming, ms office, standard apps, vms, etc.

Have usb sticks, external harddrives, etc.

Most curious about the actual SSD that will take the reinstall. Anything I should do? Or standard, Windows install, delete partition, and select to install?

For one, only have the drive you are installing on plugged in when you are installing windows. It told me to unplug the "external HDD" towards the end, which meant I had to power it off and unplug all my extra SSD's. Kind of a pain since it didn't give me an option to shut down.

You might want to secure erase your ssd to ensure optimal performance. Also I don't know of how your sb-e system will handle secure boot, you might look into this.

Great. thanks.

I seem to recall that there was this website that helped install common window application after a reinstall. Anyone know what it was?
