Advice on water cooling setup

Looking for a water cooling solution for a 6990 and a Sandy 2600k, I want quality above price and I want something quiet.

I know next to nothing about water cooling and so I though I might ask you guys.

Also Would 2 6970 be better than 1 6990? I was thinking I would only have to buy 1 water block if I went with the 6990.

Also I game at 1080p on a porjector screen so I think the 6990 is PLENTY of muscles to handle anything I throw at it.

EK has good stuff...cruise their site, they have a cooling configurator that is pretty nifty.

There is a lot to learn, how concerned are you about noise? How much room in the case?
 
Not sure if AMD or nVidia allows Eyefinity/nVSurround on two monitors... you may have to add a third... for two screens you'll just have a game running on one screen and desktop on the other.

EK is generally considered one of top quality, although Koolance has been making their way up there (used to be one of worst).

How quiet your system will be depends largely on the amount of radiator you get. The amount of radiator you get depends largely on how much room you have in your case, or if mounted externally, how much room outside you have available, and how much you're willing to spend. Radiators can easily become the most expensive part of any watercooling build, especially if you buy multiple ones. Well, radiators + fans.

Since noise is important, scythe gentle typhoons. I would go with 1850 RPM models and use a fan controller, so you can control noise more directly.
 
I was thinking to get a Raven 02 Case and mount the Radiator externaly, Been looking around a bit. So basically the larger the radiator the less noisy? So ideally a 9x140mm with low noise Noctua fans? If I am aiming for low noise? Also what about those WC Power suplies, they seem a bit dodge, I have a hard time trusting anyone but Seasonic, or reseller of them.

is 750 lph enough? And is that brand reliable?

Edit: After a bit more reading, I think maybe it would be in my best interest to have two loops, one for the CPU/Mobo and one for the GPUs (one 6990 for now, maybe two later) Or would one be enough for everything? The last thing I want is get all that set up and then realise that it's not enough. Rather have too much, than too little.

Wel I was not completely againts mounting a 9x140 on the backside of my case, space is a non issue, since I have a room specialy for gaming with plenty of room to spare. Currently gaming on 200" screen, on that topic I tought that all Eyefinity did was merge monitors together and create a bigger resolution, I am pretty sure it works with .. 2 3 4 or 5 monitor ..
 
It might work, I'm not too sure on the particulars of eyefinity. A quick google search leads me to believe it will.

I wouldn't bother running separate loops, it's more trouble than it's worth with your setup. Your primary concern is noise, and a single loop with say 2 3x120 radiators will give you plenty of performance overhead. If you want to get a 9x140 radiator, you can easily just put 9 140mm 1000rpm fans on there and call it a day. Put 18 with shrouds if you want maximum overall performance out of the radiator (but not necessary in your case).

The only reason for dual loop is if you want everything to get to the lowest temperature possible, and your primary concern is performance. In general, the water temperature difference within a loop is minimal, probably with a ~2 C rise after leaving the last waterblock in your system before getting to the radiator.

That pump from what I've heard is not powerful enough for a larger system such as what you're planning on, it's designed for a CPU + smaller radiator system (low restriction 3x120). Get a MCP355 or 655 with a custom top, or reservoir attachment.

Don't bother with watercooled power supplies. Completely useless, and completely overpriced. Stick with a Seasonic X750.
 
Also check out the Jingway pump, EK rebrands them...I think DD does too, I'm happy with the larger one I got. Clearly $ is not a big constraint for you, why not get a big MountainMods cube case and go all out?

I really like the look of those cubes, and while I have a good budget, I was to stay within 5k. Including everything.

With the kind of system I plan to build which one of those would you recomend? Can they fit the two 3x120 inside the case?

Projector, screen and PC.

good 1080p Projectors got for about $1200

So that leaves me with $3800 to build my machine.

I am prepared to spend ~1k on case, water blocks, cooling system. Ideally wouldnt want to spend much more than 350 on a case alone.

Edit: I am trying to make sense of it all, a bit much to swallow at once, Also I read somewhere that there is rads with better performance with low speed fans?
 
Radiators with low FPI (fins per inch) work better with low speed fans because they offer less restriction against airflow. High FPI works better with high speed fans due to the greater surface area available. Thick radiators generally have low FPI; the thickness is to compensate for the lower surface area vs high FPI radiators. High FPI radiators are generally relatively thin.

Well I didn't even know it was possible to internalize a full setup like that beside small water. I do really like those big box cases. Would two 3x120 Rads provide enough cooling?

Because I did the math on those 9x120, that means I need somewhere near 18 120mm fans, thats is almost 400$ just in fans :/
 
With a 9x120 radiator, you can get away with just 9 fans, there is absolutely no need to go with 18 fans.

Two 3x120 radiators will provide enough cooling. I was able to completely internalize an SLI watercooling system in a Cosmos 1000 (regular full tower case) with a 3x140 radiator. It's also entirely possible to completely internalize two 3x120 radiators, or at least a 3x120 and 2x120, in certain full tower cases, I have seen people do it before.
 
Yeah, plus on the 3x120 there is alot more choice and benchmarked ones. Like the rx360 seems very good at low fan speed. Two of those sounds like a good solution. I'm still lost for the case, those custom boxes are nice but a bit ott I don't need that much space. Any known case that sport two rads out of the box?
 
My advise

1- do lots of reading and ask lots of questions before spending $

2- focus $ on infrastructure (case, rads, fans, res, pump, power supply) the rest comes and goes, this stuff sticks with you.
 
No regular cases support two 3x120 radiators out of the box. A few, like the Corsair 800D, can support a 3x120 and two 1x120 or 1x140 radiators, and the 800D can easily be modded on the bottom to support a 2x120, and if done correctly, a 3x120. On the 800D, you would just lose the bottom hard drive bays, which I doubt will be a loss for you.
 
I have decided to go with a U2UFO from Mountain Mods for my case.

I will put two XSPC RX360 Rads (with 3 quiet 1000rpm fans) with a MCP 655 pump.

I have read a bit on loops and I was wondering what you guys think.

All in 1/2 ID 3/4 OD Tubing

Rad 1 --> CPU (2600k @ 5) --> Chipset --> Rad 2 --> GPU 1 (AMD 6990)--> GPU 2 (AMD 6990) --> Reservoir --> Pump

How does that look?

Also is Ram cooling solutions worth it? I dont plan to O/C much beside the CPU because it will be my bottleneck in alot of situations since I game at lowish resolutions.
 
That loop configuration looks fine. Most of the time, watercooling the chipset and RAM aren't really worth it, but it certainly does look cooler, and has more of an awesome factor.
 
loop order makes little difference

I wish I had gone with smaller tubing, tubing resistance is not a big factor compared to your blocks and the smaller stuff is way easier to route

agree that RAM cooling is just for looks unless you are volting and clocking like hell...i7 northbridges can get pretty warm when clocked however
