I currently have a P4 3.2 Northwood SSF and want to upgrade.

Thought, opinions & suggestions needed, not a gamer, but would like the system to handle Far Cry 2 when it's out.

Asus P5Q-EM mobo...P5Q-VM better choice?

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz...best bang for the $ ?

OCZ Platinum 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066

Always have used ATI video cards...need a suggestion. $300 range, VisionTek HD 4870 sound good?

I will be using my Silverstone SG01 (modified with SG02 face), Silverstone NT06 Evolution and SilverStone ST50EF-PLUS-SC 500 Watt Power Supply, Pioneer DVD Burner.

P5Q EM or P5Q VM - Good choice.

Q6600 - Excellent value for money.

OCZ Platinum 8500 - great RAM.

ATI 4870 - Insane Card.

SG01 modified with SG02 face!? Why not an SG02 (superior internal design) with SG01 bezel (brushed aluminium FTW)?

Anyhow, Great CPU cooler, Kick Ass PSU and Good Burner too.

Can't go wrong bro.

You know your shit.

Enjoy the upgrade.

Looks good to me, especially after reading news that nehalem isn't going to be that great of a boost for gaming...the q6600 is a great bang for the buck

As far as RAM goes, if you find it cheaper go with 6400. I got 8000 but if you OC using Q6600, what you most likely end up setting FSB is like mine which is 400Mhz. Meaning no need to get anything higher unless it's same price or cheaper to get higher speed RAM which sometimes that is the case. ;)

Thanks....Looks like the P5Q-VM won't be available until later in September...could wait I suppose.

I've always used and had great luck with OCZ.

Actually it's a SG01 Evolution with SG02 bezel. Wanted the alloy innards. The high gloss plastic bezel actually looks damn good. I use a an older Pioneer A12XL bezel on a DVR-115 burner. They changed the 116's so it will no longer fit.

Looks like the P5Q-EM has more features then the VM model....HDMI & S/PDIF-out among many others.

Have all the parts, will start build later today. Only thing is I hope I don't run into problems with the 4850 and P5Q-EM. I'm running XP, so may be good. Went with a E8500.

Silverstone SG02B-F Case
Asus P5Q-EM Mobo
Intel E8500 CPU

Silverstone ST50EF-SC Power Supply
Western Digital 640GB WD6400AAKS Hard Drive
VisionTek Radeon HD 4850 Video Card
Pioneer DVR-115 DVD Burner
