Hey all, I'm venturing back into the water cooling jungle, and I'm going with the following parts:
Danger Den CSP-Mag pump
2x 120mm Black Ice Pro radiators
1x 240mm Black Ice Xtreme2 radiator
DD TDX for AMD s939
Alphacool Mosfet cooler for Abit AN8 sli series
Alphacool Northbridge Cooler also for Abit AN8 sli series.

First off, I'm not sure of the flow yet. It's going to use a T-line fill-port, and I have put teflon on all of the fittings etc. Any suggestions?

Is that pump going to be enough? I have two of them if that could/would help. (possible?)
 
Don't go with a CSP pump. Go with a more reliable pump instead.

Any reason you're using 3 rads? The BIX 120.2 would be more than enough for most loops with the right fans...
 
Well, I already have the pump, from a previous build. Same goes for the radiators, I have them, so I see no reason to not use them.

I'm also confused as to what fans I should use, and should I pick up a fan controller for them? I was looking at this but it only has 3 fan controllers.

I'm sure I'll have more questions, but for now this is all I can muster. Thanks for the help!
 
You could get that controller and use one channel for the fans on the BIP singles since they don't need high CFM fans and run the other two channels to the fans on the BIX 240 since it'll need high CFM fans for the best performance. This'll allow you to dial the fans down on the Xtreme during idle periods and let the Pros do the bulk of the cooling at a midrange RPM.
 
Fans? use THESE.

They're amazing, and I buy them by the 100's for my builds... (100 pack of them for 208$, can't go wrong) At 7v on a BIP radiator you're getting good performance at absolute SILENCE. Personal testing reveals about 8% (24/300) have very annoying bearing noise... so buy an extra one just incase.

Fan controller... either run everything at 7v, and leave it... Or get a Sunbeamtech rheobus, for about 10$. Best on the market IMO.

He's got 2 BIP's... Those are enough to cool the loop as-is. He could hire a small child to blow through the BIX and get about the same temperatures as with a high powered fan ;)
 
That's four fans for his BIX II which can make for a fun time trying to mount it internally. I stand by my statement that they're underpowered. If it takes a push/pull config, why screw around and just go with the proper fan for the job?

He wants to use all of his rads as per the first post, his choice.

I'm not denying that you're right, I'm just saying the noise/performance difference wouldn't be worth it, going for a higher rated fan. If he was ONLY using the BIX, then you'd be as right as possible.

But... 75CFM air through a BIX is about the sweet spot. For his application, 30CFM will do (yate at 7v). Both yates, at that speed, will amount to no more than 25dba... Which is barely audible in an urban indoor setting.

At that level, that double radiator is capable of dissipating about 250w of heat (real world test, not manufacturer specs) which is about a full CPU+GPU (pre Quad core and 8800 level) combo at a mild overclock.

Throw in each BIP + Yate loon and get another 150w per radiator, for a total of about 550w heat dissipation, conservatively speaking... enough for an 8800GTX SLI setup +QX6700 at a medium OC.

A higher powered fan at those cooling levels would only add noise... while doing very little.

Those 12v yate loons run at about 29dba... 2 of them run at 32dba. Combined with the 2 7v yates on the BIX, you've got a total system leve of about 36dba, which is moderate-low noise.

Throwing on 2 higher CFM fans (60cfm+) and your noise levels rise to a good 41dba, which is no better than high end air cooling... and you'll see a 1c drop overall... if that.
 
My suggestion was to use two medium CFM fans (such as the Loons) on the BIP's and two higher CFM fans on the BIX. This would allow the BIP's to do the cooling chores at anything but the highest stress and he can crank up the fans on the BIX when he's gaming and doesn't need quiet. I agree that the BIP's will be enough to do the job but if he wants the uber cooling for his loop then plumbing in the BIX won't hurt. For the BIX I'd personally go with Tt SFII's as they're pretty stout and can be run pretty damned quiet when you want to plus they're only 25mm thick. Given the added girth of the BIX running 2 fans as opposed to four is a boon for mounting purposes.

I guess he might as well... Won't make much of a difference, but the price of the fans.

Just get a fan controller, if you decide to go with the higher RPM fans, you'll probably want one.

I still say it shouldn't make one bit of difference.
 
I went ahead and grabbed 5 yates. with the 3 radiators I don't think I'll need too much to cover what I'm cooling. Eventually I'll probably add an 8800gtx water block, but that's a ways down the road.
 
Did you already buy them? 8% have bearing noise (my sample included 24 with bearing noise out of 300) so you MIGHT wanna consider buying an extra... just incase.
 
i just wanted to throw my 2 cents in on the fan controller.

I would would shy away from that fan controller, becuase i cant find ANYWHERE on the net the wattage per channel. Not on silverstones site, not on the 5-6 reviews i could find.

I would reccomend this one 18 W per channel, which would allow 2-3 fans per channel easy. I have 2 per channel on mine, and it costs less. $16

I have a BIPII, and i noticed a considerable increase in cooling when i went from standard low rpm fans on it (the 2 fans that came with my LL case (35 cfa adda fans).. and put on 88 CFM CREAIR fans on it.

Problem was, those fans are LOUD. Thus the genuis of fan controllers. Low settings on standard operation, and High settings when you need that extra cooling. Fan controllers are the best invention ever :)

I would also reccomend these fans..i know you already bought the loons.. not a bad choice, only that they can never give you some "giddy up cooling" as they are only like 35 cfms... so probably no need for a controller..

They are very quiet at 7V and give 35 cfms, and on 12V, they give 60 CFMs, and are still decent quiet, the quietest 60 plus CFM fans I have ever used, they are easily 80% quietest than the CRE air 88 CFMs i was using.

Just my 2 cents.
 
The yates at 12v run at 47 CFM...

Those Scythe fans also overstate their specs too, more in the area of 55 CFM... But yes, they are quite good. At a comparable airflow (since I use that scythe for an intake fan), in open air, the scythe is a good 2-3db quieter than the Yates (as it takes 2 scythes to equal the loudness of a Yate).

Really not a huge difference between the two... but the scythes are superior if you can afford 30-60$ for fans... Which I cannot.

But yeah :d At 80+ CFM, lol, you've got a HUGE volume of air moving through that radiator.

Ok, so you have an e6300, a water loop(and if i remember right, pretty expensive blocks,) and a 8800gts...and yet, cant afford a few extra dollars for fans??? Im ahhhh....aaaa... not sure how to respond to that :)

Yeah i dont know know the actual difference.. but I have the Yates and the S-flexes, and by using the very scientific "hold my hand in front of it method) the s-flexes move a lot more air than the loons, and not any louder. Thats why i like them more.

But you are correct, they are 3X as much as the loons.
 
FYI, I've yet to purchase any of the hardware in any of my PC rigs.

Everything's thrown together from left-over contracts, returns or trades.

I'd never spend alot of money on a computer, or a car, and especially not a fan. Those fans are about as pricey as razor blades, yet cost under a dollar to make... I have something against that.

Anyways, I'm going to stop replying to this thread. OP, I'm glad you made the decision that will get you the best performance/price. Any larger fans won't get you any noticeable benefit, as you've got enough cooling power in the BIP's alone.
