I recently purchased some new RAM as 1 of my old PC6400 DHX sticks was bad (wouldnt operate above Cas5 @800mhz)
I ended up getting the Dominators (1066 Cas5) set 2x2GB.
The problem I have is it will not run @ 1066. Even w/CPU at stock setting the DRAM strap to 333/1066 and 2.1V as it says it should be.
I end up getting a blue screen soon after logging into windows. Maybe 1 is bad as well ... or thers another issue in hardware im overlooking ..
After messing around a bit, I ended up with a slightly higher OC however ...
CPU Vcore 1.23 @ 3.7Ghz (was @ 3.6 same voltage)
RAM @ 825Mhz 4-4-412 Timings 2.1V
At these settings it seems happy and content, but still ... no go for 1066 speeds. w/or w/out a OC. Even passing Prime 64 w/no issues (couldnt b4 w/old RAM regardless of settings)
So my question is this:
How much difference is there between 1066mhz @ 5-5-5-15 AND 825mhz @ 4-4-4-12(staying 1:1)
I can get stable @ 3.6 (strap at 333/800) which gives me 960ish on RAM but @ 5-5-5-15 timings ..
I always thought in a situation like this the tighter timings and slower clock was better but looking for second opinion on those who may know more ..
ALSO: oddly i found that CPUZ reports the RAM as DDR2 PC 6400 800Mhz max speed ..
But the EPP has settings for 1066 speeds ... odd
Anyway .. should I return or would it be more effort that its worth?
may be able to get more out of it but havent tried beyod this pointn
