Hey all,

long story short, friend didnt have good grip on the corner of my sony tritron 32" tv and dropped it!!!!!

SO now i want a new tv.

Problem is being in costa rica, my option are very limited - any good tv is $3k +.

i am aiming for the $2k, i went around to alot of places today and the best of what i could find was basically:

Samsung
43" Rear Projection Television
Model: SP43Q5HL

http://www.samsung.com/au/products/tv/rearprojectiontv/sp_43q5hl.asp?page=Specifications

Now i do want 1080i HD and such, it says this tv is HD ready.. ? lost on that one... would i need to buy something to make it HD ready ?

it only has component RCA plug on it, no DVI or HDMI...

So i was leaning towards this Sony, $300 more, but has HDMI and VGA and component

But, what has me, the tv says on the back it was made in November 2004.... - they had HDMI back then ?

It also says on one review i need an HD receiver as well to use HD on this - so that means if my DVD player has HD it wont show on the TV with out the receiver - even thought on the back of the TV it lists the HD resolutions and has component right below them ?

okay, think i understand now i read it better

HDTV Ready, means just that

The TV can display HD resolutions, so if i hook my PC up to the system - it will run HD resolutions BUT if i want to watch HD TV - i need the receiver?

Also, since the sony only has a VGA port, can i get HD resolutions out of the VGA port or will it look like crap - like using VGA on an LCD with your comp ?

Could anyone point me to a good forum that maybe able to assist me in this ?
