Hey Everyone,
Looking for some advice on bulding a new nas server. I've built workstations and small raid systems before but never a large linux nas server. This box will be used to house video media - access speeds over the network are not critical, as the goal of this new box is to act as a central storage location for archived media vs current working media that is housed on faster SDD's inside our workstations.
My budget is between $7000 to $9000
As a starting point, I've selected a Norco 24 bay case and would like to pack it full of 3tb drives.
- I rather run two 12 drive raids to make any future migrations less of a hassle - looking for controller/expansion card recommendations.
- would like to know if there are any off the shelf hybrid raid solutions such as the ones you find in drobo/synology boxes that can be used in this server, and what resources that would require. I want to maximize storage space, while being able to lose up to 2 drives at one time while still having redundancy.
- drives are currently WD reds - I've not had any experience with them, but like their price point - any other drive suggestions would be welcome.
