Greets all,
I was hoping I could get a little advice on a new video card...
Here's my situation....
I've got 2 SLI'd 8800 Ultra's in my system now (See system specs below). When they work...they work great. However...I've got an issue where periodically and randomly one of those cards will just hard-lock my system when in SLI. If I disable SLI...the problem disappears. Its only in SLI. Anyhow....I've done alot of searching and found there are alot of folks that seem to have the same problems with the combination of 8800's in SLI and Vista 64.
I've been troubleshooting this for a while now and I'm tired of goofing with it. I think I'd like to just cut bait and get a new card. I'm thinking that my 8800 Ultras are old enough now that perhaps a single card solution of one of the newer cards might just give me higher frame rates than my current SLI setup WITH less heat to boot.
Is my guess true? Will I be able to achieve better FPS with a single-card solution using one of the newer cards than with the SLI setup I have now?
I'd prefer to stick with Nvidia cards. If a single-card solution can indeed get me better FPS than my current SLI setup...then I'd prefer to get a card pretty high up on the performance curve so that if I go to the trouble and expense of yanking those two cards...that I can actually see the performance difference.
So whatdya think?
